3.0 out of 5 stars Would give it 5 and 1 star!, 3 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ok, I am tempted to give this watch both a 5 and a 1 star rating. 5 for the watch itself, based on the cost elsewhere, 1 for the underhand tactics this particular seller is using to get folks to buy a watch that is half the price elsewhere.

If you search in major online auctions (where might that be!) you can buy this for a fraction over £20 shipped from Asia. It goes under the title of Aplus GV18. It's exactly the same watch as this one, which you'll discover with some basic research (kicking myself for being lazy). For £20 it's a lot of watch for the money. Sure some things don't work that well. If you read the onlie reviews the Chinese android bluetooth syncing app (that you will need to install on your Android phone) will drop the bluetooth connection for no reason. Yes that is a pain and if you want to 'only' pair it with you Android phone, then this will frustrate you. On the plus side the original app has been updated, so further updates may sort it out. But the real fun is if you install a micro PAYG sim (I use Giffgaff) and then you have a standalone mobile phone on your wrist... for £20!!! In fact it's pretty good in terms of reception as well. I live on the edge of the O2/Giffgaff coverage in my area, but I get as good a signal on this as I do on my smartphone.

In terms of construction/reliability the casing and strap seem well made (as most reviews conclude). How long will it last? Dunno.... but for £20 go and buy another one if you can't live without it! In fact the battery is likely to be the wink link. But if you search for 'GV18 battery' you should find where you can have it shipped from China for £2.20 all in. Try getting a phone battery for anything close to that!

So why would I give 1 star to the seller? Well as a few others have pointed out most of the 5 star reviews on this and most other Stoga products are from folks who have only ever left one review.... which is always 5* for Stoga. If you Google 'Amazon fake reviews' you'll see what they've probably been up to. It seems you can even purchase 5* reviews even with reasonably decent English. On that point note what happens when someone leaves a1* review for this trader. Suddenly there are rebukes and 'this product is brilliant' from others, but mostly written with very poor, sometimes nonsensical, English. So you can probably guess what is going on.

Anyway for circa £20 and an extra sim this is a lot of fun....Star Trek wrist communicators have finally arrived! But don't expect it to be finished (particularly the software) to an Apple/Sony standard. But it's a fraction of the cost.... particularly if you get it from the right place.

2.0 out of 5 stars Still a major feature missing despite numerous requests in TomTom's own forums., 5 July 2014
It's been over a year now and even with the very latest major update from TomTom (July 2014) they have still left out two key features that folks have continuously asked for in their forums since the start of this new series. These are custom POIs and 'Avoid roadblock ahead'. The latter is absolutely crucial and was on all the older TomTom's, so none of us can work out why after a year it's still not on this new version.

Why is it so important? Well when an accident has just happened and the services are blocking the road ahead there's a very good chance you will need to find a new route or you'll be stuck exactly where you are until everything is sorted out/cleared. So what do you do? In the past you used the 'Avoid roadblock ahead' feature... which did what you might expect, reroute you around the blockage at the very next turn or exit. Now all you can do is use the 'find alternative route' option (just added in the July 2014 update). You might think this will do the same job, but it won't. On most occasions the alternative routes offered (usually 3) will involve you driving along the next 500m of road (if not further)... and that's right where the road block is. Come on TomTom this is like selling someone a car with no spare tyre.... when you finally need it you're completely up the proverbial creek!

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for video on a DSLR, 24 May 2014

You can't really shoot professional video on a DSLR without one of these. Excellent tool. There are more expensive versions, but this does the job just as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Yes it softens, 21 Jun. 2013
Have used (in fact stopped using) one of these. It's the MKII I have incidnetally, so don't think they sorted it out in the second incarnation. Anyway as others have pointed out it will significantly soften your image as you wind it in. I also use a 62mm Light Craft variable ND and that works just fine. So I don't know what went wrong with the larger version.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE - NOT THE SAME BATTERY AS THE ADVERT, 19 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The battery I received was not the one shown in this Amazon advert. The packaging was a plain white box. The battery inside was marked Dot.foto. There was no documentation regarding the two year guarantee. I emailed the seller three times about all this but had no reply.
