2.0 out of 5 stars Works but..., 12 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
you can hardly get it working for over 1 1/2 hr. Even at full charge, the battery lasts about half the time of the original even though they both have the same power rating. OK for the price but if you need long hour usage, you'd look for something better (and pricier).

1.0 out of 5 stars Serious issues with its firmware -AVOID!, 26 Jan 2011
Due to a rather peculiar choice from WD to park the HD heads after solely 8 sec of inactivity, the load cycle count (LCC) of this drive keeps on increasing at a rate far greater than a normal drive. In fact any single request from the OS after the inactivity period of 8sec, results in another LCC count and all these add up to a reduced lifetime for the HD. An average value for LCC before failure is around 300,000 and my drive has already 5500 after just 4 days power on time. This number is orders of magnitude higher than any other drive I have used. For instance my other Samsung HD has merely 155 LCC after 62 days of power on time (the LCC values can be retrieved in the SMART status of the drive).

WD provided a utility (wdidle3) to change the inactive time from 8 sec to 5 min. It is certainly an improvement, but still the LCC is far higher than any other drive. Since it is merely a DOS program and not a true firmware update, the issue is not fully resolved and I personally cannot think why the user should go through this process just to ensure the longevity of his HD. It is far easier to get a Samsung or a Seagate HD of the same capacity and at similar price.

A serious oversight from WD.
