A to Z of Almost Everything

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as 2007 Edition, 8 May 2014

There is no longer a section heading on each page, making it harder to navigate. This is a heavy hardback book, A4 size and awkward to hold. But still a good reference source for crosswords.

4.0 out of 5 stars Promising start for a series, 16 Dec 2013

The story is well told and it's a good scenario: paranormal events being investigated by two men of opposite viewpoints. The psychic one is warm, with hints of an intriguing past. But the abrasive sceptic has science on his side. I'd like to see how this plays out over a series of new cases.

Great for tyre pump connectors, parcel shelf slots, wherever you need grease and don't want to risk damage to rubber/plastic by using ordinary mineral oil or grease. It has good consistency, ideal for the job.

I was charmed by the older generation coming to terms with unexpected wealth, and lovable characters trying to do the right thing under the cloud that follows their inheritance.

I was struck by the understated menace behind the violent events. In the end, evil is merciless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Portable backups, 27 April 2013

Not being comfortable with the security risks of cloud storage, I like to have my own backup copies of my documents and data. This flash drive is slim, handy and it works fine. Fair value too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good reference book, 27 April 2013

This was a replacement for a well-thumbed and worn out paperback version. It is very useful for crosswords and quiz questions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awakening of a failed rogue, 3 April 2013

I liked the intriguing main character, a disgraced survivor from the Irish troubles. The action moves along and the picture keeps changing. As often happens, there were too many names to remember who was who, early in the story. Also a few typos that seem to have resulted from typing up a handwritten script. But overall a good thriller with a satisfying big-bang conclusion.

A mystery that unravels, with a worthy main character and an intriguing setting. Difficult at first to follow the various characters but the action is satisfying and the resolution hits hard.

4.0 out of 5 stars A contrast with today's world, 22 Jan 2013

This seems to be a pretty accurate depiction of the fifties in England, as I remember it. There are a lot of lists, enumerating artists and broadcast programmes from that time. It shows how much has changed and how much is taken for granted now. For anyone who has difficulty believing that there was ever a time without mobile phones and central heating, this book would bring enlightenment.
