5.0 out of 5 stars Joy to read, 16 Sept. 2014

Filmed as "The Old Dark House", this is a great book by a writer who could write! Very readable with nothing difficult or heavy about it - yet it is fine literature from a master. More of Priestley should be rescued from the "out of print" basement.

1.0 out of 5 stars Off colour, 16 Sept. 2014

Love Richard Bell's books and artwork, but not this one. Dull, wishy-washy sketches with no trace of colour. What went wrong this time?

Excellent and informative! This is Oliver's best DVD and is based on his excellent book. Much better than his Coast appearances which are too much Oliver and not enough coast!

2.0 out of 5 stars Contains only a brief fragment of this historic and inspiring ..., 16 Sept. 2014
Contains only a brief fragment of this historic and inspiring broadcast. Very misleading as I wanted the whole of JB Priestley's Dunkirk postscript and I thought that was what I was going to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid Armorel, 19 Aug. 2014

This splendid book should be read by everyone who loves Scilly! The description of the islands is accurate and beautiful, the heroine is delightful and a true Scillonian. Besant needs to be read again as he compares very well with Dickens and Wilkie Collins. This e-book is well presented, clear and with excellent reproduction of the original illustrations.

2.0 out of 5 stars where are the illustrations?, 10 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have the original printed book and thought it would be useful to have it on kindle. The printed book is full of wonderful illustrations, but I could find none in the kindle book. Yet the blurb claims this is the illustrated edition. So where are they?

The Wheels Of Chance: Extended Annotated Edition
The Wheels Of Chance: Extended Annotated Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb cycle story, 11 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is my favourite non-science fiction story by HG Wells. The hero is a drapers assistant just like the heroes of Kipps and Mr Polly. The book is much better than Kipps and at least as good, if not better than Mr Polly.

Hoopdriver sets out on his wobbly bicycle on his annual holiday - a tour of the South Downs. He meets and falls in love with the young Lady in Grey and assists her to escape "the cad with the flaxen moustache". There is much humour and pathos and it also gives us an insight into the rigid class distinctions of Edwardian England. Sad and funny and a delight for anyone who enjoys cycling. It would make a great film!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb account of the Great Storm, 2 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Storm (Kindle Edition)
The great storm of 1703 was far greater than anything we have recently experienced. Defoe's description reads well and is very thorough as he collected eye witness accounts from all over the country. His accounts of the preceding days of unusually heavy rains and floods reads like the newpapers of today. Then came the terrible winds with roof tiles flying horizontally through the air and smashing windows of houses opposite. Steeples came down, hundreds of barns and houses were demolished. Whole fleets of ships were sunk off the east coast and in the Thames estuary. Admiral Cloudsley Shovel tried to enter harbour at Harwich and was blown to Norway!

Readers may want to skip the first two chapters of preamble, but then the journalism is graphic, exciting and very readable. What an excellent writer was Daniel Defoe!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great songs, great value, 14 Dec. 2013

This review is from: Crazy (Audio CD)
This is a superb collection and I cannot understand the negative review! Incredible value for money with 50 tracks for just under a fiver. The quality is excellent as is the content. Patsy's favourites are there and there are less well known songs too including some cross over pop and rock. Brilliant so buy it!

Excellent quality and quantity with very prompt delivery well packed. This is high quality paper in pleasant colours. Paper is not shiny like cheap stuff and folds well and gives sharp creases. Excellent value for money well spent. I shall buy no other.
