Great Piano & Appalling Customer Service, 23 Jan 2013
This is a fine sounding and great looking piano. But there the good news ends. It does not arrive fully assembled, you have to do put it together yourself. And because Norman's don't mention this in their description of the piano, you find yourself phoning round friends to help you with what is very much a two man job. You need two men as well to deliver the heavy boxes in which the piano & stool arrive. Still, one delivery man may be enough, if you allow him to park your new piano in the street outside your home. Apparently, this is the 'kerbside delivery' authorized by the courier, Palletways.
Luckily, I was able to bully the delivery man into heaving the boxes into my girlfriend's flat, but only by threatening him with everything from trading standards to health and safety. If he hadn't agreed to move the piano, I would have rejected the delivery and left my girlfriend without the birthday present I had bought her.
When I mailed Norman's to complain about this, I received a perfunctory apology and a link to a webpage where a delivery man is effortlessly wheeling a well laden trolley. There was also a testimonial from a customer who had taken delivery of a guitar without any of the problems I've described. At first, I wondered if Norman's was taking the P. Then I realized they just couldn't care less.
