This didn't quite match the interest of the Heath Bros previous books. I still hold them in high esteem and the book is readable, but i think my expectations were so high that this book didn't match them and was a little repetitive and lacking penetrating insights.

Not quite up to the brilliance of Switch, but still it is a cracking read. As with all the Heath books, it presents interesting concepts with a clear and memorable sequence of narratives and anecdotes. Useful for teachers looking for an angle on their professional reflection that is new and slightly different to the usual professional development fare.

I am a huge fan of the Heath Bros and this is easily their best book. It provides a memorable sequence of analogies to make memorable the concept of changing behaviors. This book has one of the most influential on me as a school leader.

5.0 out of 5 stars it was one of the best books on the market, 2 Nov 2014

Tom Bennett applies his usual humorous and warm style in this book. I read it as I was reading around books for new teachers when I was writing my 'Teach Now! English' book and, as I expected, it was one of the best books on the market.

Why Don't Students Like School?: A Cognitive Scientist Answers Questions About How the Mind Works and What It Means for the Classroom
by Daniel T. Willingham
Edition: Paperback
Price: £11.99

5.0 out of 5 stars A highly popular read, making challenging content very clear, 2 Nov 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A highly readable look at cognitive psychology and making it easily applicable to education. This author received a lot of undue flak for being repeatedly cited by Michael Gove, but the observations are stripped of ideology and are rooted in substantial evidence. I had perhaps expected a rather more controversial book, so on first read I was a little underwhelmed. I have reread the book since, and cited it repeatedly and it has proved an excellent read on reflection.
