4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful to browse, but..., 11 Aug. 2011
I found the beginning part of the book (with lots of tips regarding what you need to have before you start) a bit too long. I would have preferred more patterns, less preparation talk, perhaps in a ratio one third preparation, two thirds patterns+instructions.

That being said, the book is incredibly inspirational and beautifully illustrated. The patterns (which I haven't yet actually tried) seem to be somewhat challenging, and especially the clothing examples made seem very very meticulously made, almost putting me off from making them 'cause I know I could never achieve the same! :D I hope I will, though in the meantime I'll just focus on admiring the book.

BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Active (Black/Black, Cotton Mix)
BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Active (Black/Black, Cotton Mix)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent baby carrier, 11 Aug. 2011
Easy to use, comfortable to carry, no complaints for neither the mom nor the dad in our family!
Baby is particularly happy to swap the view to forward, a feature which doesn't exist in some of the other very popular carriers. I would say this is an absolute must-have for any family with babies: it makes life so much easier and (at least our) baby really likes to be carried around!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent child seat, 10 July 2011
It does take a lot of space due to the huge grey plastic cushions (there's really no room for a third person on the back seat once you have this there, perhaps for a short ride when leaning forward but that's it), other than that it looks and feels sturdy, and the primary user says it's comfortable so we're satisfied. :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Has the author ran out of things to write passionately about?, 5 Jun. 2011
I'm sad to see that the books in this series keep on getting worse and worse. I only buy this 'cause I have the rest and I need to read what will happen - as an independent book this is not good. Not good at all. Such a pity! Dear author, please don't publish books just to make money. We readers are happy to wait years if it means the story would have a bit more depth.

Make Your Own Japanese Clothes: Patterns and Ideas for Modern Wear

2.0 out of 5 stars Very old-fashioned and uninspirational book, 3 Jan. 2011
This book is old (= from the 80's) and it could really use a facelift. I didn't realize that "modern" in this context meant late 80's. :/

I think in principle the ideas are good, but the way the book is made (layout, instructions, illustrations, photos) makes it really uninspirational. It also seems very difficult to understand when you first view it.

You really need to be into Japanese clothing and extremely determined to make one yourself in order to get something out from this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide book for anyone with sewing as a hobby, 3 Jan. 2011
Excellent book: good size, great format (spiral back is the BEST in any guide book that needs to stay open while you work), clear and understandable illustrations that serve their purpose well. A definite "Must have" for anyone with a bit more interest in sewing than just repairing broken seams and such. Good for beginners as well as more experienced makers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light-weight basic pushchair with versatile options, 3 Jan. 2011
This pushchair is lightweight and is a basic pushchair with lots of choices for newborns to toddlers. It does seem a bit wobbly and squeaky, so I don't know yet how durable it will be in heavy use. It seems to be easily movable and not too big, fitting for the city circumstances.

The "ventilating net" on the top of the hood is IMO placed wrong: it's right on top, so once you open it the sun will shine straight on the eyes of the child in the pushchair. The netting should be towards the end of the hood, so that it would let wind through the pram without letting sunshine in.

The wheels are definitely useless if there's any snow on the ground, as they are hard plastic and the profile on them is pretty much non-existent (and I haven't found any special winter tyres I could buy).

The "bag" under the pushchair seems big and easily accessible. The frame folds nicely into a small package, but if the seat is attached it doesn't fold so nicely and compactly. Also the adjusting of the seat backrest is difficult as the latch with which you're supposed to do it is behind the back rest fabric and there's a tiny hole through which you can try to access it (it's too small to get the latch out permanently).

Summa summarum: lots of details are less than perfect, but overall it seems an OK pushchair for the (discount) price I paid. I would recommend you try to go see it first at your local baby gear store so you'll know what you're getting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just an "OK" pattern book, 3 Jan. 2011
Even though there are some simple ones here and there most of the patterns are not the most easiest patterns, so I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone who's just starting with sewing. The instructions are cute, as are the photos. Overall I'd say the book is an "OK" pattern book, nothing one couldn't live without. Though for a vintage fan with sewing skills and kids nearby this is probably very appreciated.

As a side remark: I personally dislike gender-related statements like "Dungarees are perfect for toddlers, especially for little boys". I guess that attitude is fitting to the old-fashioned theme? :P

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too "impressive" - but very interesting nonetheless, 3 Jan. 2011
The book is huge, and has a lot of inspirational material from all sorts of projects. It has a pretty "traditional" layout. Definitely an interesting book for any designer, especially those working with print.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just an "OK" knitting book, 3 Jan. 2011
This review is from: Junior Knits (Paperback)
The book is not very attractive (with this I'm referring to patters, photos, font, page layouts, binding style, book size = the whole package) but it has some OK patterns that seem easy to do and I'll definitely try them out. Not a "Must buy".
