Well written, very comprehensive and a very fair account of this interesting and capable man. I have always respected and admired Yeates and this account did everything to justify those views.

The item works well - it is a pity the the minimum diameter that you can cut is not smaller than 4cms - unless I have not worked it out?? Otherwise nicely made - well designed easy to use and practical.

4.0 out of 5 stars Boeing B29 Superfortress - The ultimate Look _From Drawing Board to VJ Day, 19 Dec 2010
This is indeed the Book for B29 enthusiasts and also very much for anyone interested in the WWII Bomber. One could after reading this almost feel confident in servicing and flying a B29!! A wealth of detail by way of text photographs and drawings. Oh that the same in depth work could be produced for one of the British Bombers of WWII.

The Book describes the concept of the aircraft, it's design and construction, test flying and operational career. Examples of construction details by way of detailed drawings are given along with numerous photographs - many in colour - of the interior. Crew training and in flight procedures are covered, along with emergency exiting.

In many ways a "manual" but somewhat more user friendly to those who are not completely familiar with workshop practice.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Hero??, 5 Feb 2010
This review is from: A Perfect Hero [DVD] (DVD)
I wonder if any heros are perfect. However the title aside this is a remarkably watchable well scripted and produced piece of "Faction" docu - drama. The late Geoffrey page, himself a badly burned Battle of Britain participant was the technical adviser and for once the producers have heeded knowledge of the "expert" rather than let truth get in the way of a good story.

The story is drawn heavily from the real life and remarkable Richard Hillary who was a very good writer as his book "Last Enemy" demonstrates. Reading this will help understand the difficulties people like our perfect hero "Hugh Flemming" faced.

Many "stars" are in the cast and Nigel Havers is perfectly cast, as is James Fox as the "plastic surgeon" who physically and mentally put these chaps back together. Bernard Hepton admirably plays the stiff upper lip Father, exercising his authority over "Mother" with typical politeness of the era.

If I have one criticism - and it is hardly that - it is the comparatively gentle portrayal of the horrific injuries these young men suffered - and the degree of pain - the mental and emotional traumas. Notwithstanding I think it came across sufficiently, Unlike many productions today which do nothing but encourage our immunity to mutilation and suffering.

I would hope then that this production will appeal to a large cross section of the community, as well as the mature of mind.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Strange interpretation, 4 Oct 2007
I found myself doubtful of the Authors' scholarship. Not even the date of the Fire of London is correct. I also had to conclude that the intensity of the research for the subject matter was similarly less than thorough. I believe that those who knew Dowding will be disappointed with some of the Authors assertions. It is a pity because with better research and application it could have been valuable.
