An exceptional game. At £40 its superb value. At £15 its daylight robbery. Just think about the time and effort invested in making this game. You will get hundreds of hours of enjoyment so, the story and characters are exceptional although the present day activities are a bit tedious. A great game, great value at 40 quid, exceptional value at 15 quid.

5.0 out of 5 stars The benchmark of draft guides, 21 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Pro football weekly magazine has always had the most in depth and informative draft guides with Nawrockis reports setting the benchmark. Sadly pfw no longer exist but nawrocki has taken up the baton. Wot u get here is the most in depth guide in the 2014 draft class with clear analysis and thorough scouting reports on the majority of the players to be drafted through all 7 rounds. Nawrocki often divides opinion, particularly with his scathing remarks on the likes of geno Smith and cam Newton in recent years. However those scout reports have proven more than valid, and the reports you get are not sit on the fence cliched drivel, but no holds barred, insiteful, tell it as it is, but importantly with excellent reasoning. It's often amusing to see so called in the know beat writers literally rip off nawrockis reports each year with almost word for word player summaries. Nfl network have also started using these reports and grading which the excellent Mike mayock uses for his big board. Again, this is the benchmark for draft guides and comes highly recommended if you love the Nfl and the draft in particular.

4.0 out of 5 stars Madden 25, 31 Aug 2013
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As an avid NFL & Madden fan like a kid in a sweet shop each year I look forward with geat anticipation to the Madden launch & purchase the game on the day of release year after year. Much like Fifa In recent years the game itself often falls short of the anticipation but when you have a year on year release it is understandable. This years version again achieves great highs but again in some instances falls short. Each year the franchsie moves forward in some instances but seemingly falls back in others so you never quite see the game achieving the highs it should.

After a few days of playing the game Pros and Cons are summarised below.

Pros
- As usual the graphics are exceptional although there is little difference to previous versions.
- Presentation is flawless with the usual EA polish
- Commentary continues on from last year and is again very good. However there are still moments when you score a touchdown and there is a delay with the commentators talking about somthing from the previous play and they dont quite capture the event. (A consolation TD should be potrayed diffrently than a game winning OT play but this isnt neccasairly reflected in the commentary)
- The Collision detection was improved last year and continues again this year. There are still some issues but its a big improvemnt on previous years. Blocking from the tackles is far better and u cant just use a quick Defensive End to easily sprint outside and sack the QB.
- XBox live as usual is superb with more options than ever. The lobbies split the people who quit games and those who make stupid plays on every 4th down etcto the players who want a proper game
- The draft process in Connected carears is the same as last year which was a massive upgrade on previous years.
- Connected Careers Owner mode is the big change this year. This was a fantastic idea and showed EA listened to fans, It adds a totally new dimension and has unlimited growth, potentially even a game in its own right. (Sega SI are you listening) However It sometimes feels a bit generic and doesnt quite capture the individuality of each franchise.

Cons

- Some very strange glitches. Ive had a TD disallowed for being out of bounds when I literally ran into the end zone untouched. (I would expect a Patch to resolve shortly)
- Again there are glitches where you can score a TD and run through the end of the statdium. This is fairly trivial but youd expect it to be resolved by now.
- Another very minor issue is on kick offs there is poor collision detection between the kicker actually kicking and the ball connection. (Very minimal and trivial but u would expect this to be resolved)
- The running game was woeful in Madden 2012, improved massively in 2013 but falls somehwere in between this year, there is a very minimal split second delay either from hand off from QB to RB or WR taking a catch and then running which is frustrating and can result in plays not having the impact they should. This just isnt as fluid as last years version.
- The games biggest plus this year Owner Mode also turns out to be the biggest dissapointemnt. It just feels Like EA have missed a trick and its too generic for each team. For example The press interface should be far bigger and if you make boastfull comments and loose you should be under pressure. eg The press in New York should be far more intrusive than say Jcksonville. Expectation levels in each City should vary massively. Again crowds could boo in ceratin area such as New York or get behind the team in say Green Bay. This could could link in and impact a players confidence streak. The stadium upgrade section is just far too simplistic. You simple spend an amound and Hey presto your stadium is improved in that section to the Max. This could be far more bespoke and you should be able to have an input on appearnace etc, when its done should impact the rest of the stadium etc. The growth potential in this facet is massive and could even be a game in its own right.
- NCAA football is not availble for XBox in the Uk which means you cant link the 2 games and transfer draft picks on to Madden

In summary Madden 25 is a great game in isolation but doesnt improve on previous versions as much as it should with Owner Mode not quite having the impact it could.

5.0 out of 5 stars Madden 13, 26 Sep 2012
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Ive played Madden regularly since the very first version on Megadrive in the early 90s so its fair to say Im a bit of a fan.I reviewed last years effort almost immediately after release and gave it 5 stars which in hindsight was a mistake. The AI especially the CPU on pass coverage was truly shocking especially on All Madden and it was nigh on impossible to get separation, Corners could intercept without looking at the ball. It was ALSO too difficult to run the ball on All Madden level also, even with quicker players. So punt returns etc were pretty much null and void. On any lower setting than All Madden it was just too easy even if you done individual difficulty settings.

So on to the 2013 version. The usual EA polish is evident. As usual critics will moan that its too similar etc and again roll out the usual EA rip off talk, Its difficult to argue with that but you have to review as an individual game in its own right & not a 20 year series. This year I've deliberately waited a few weeks and in my opinion this is the best version of Madden yet by some distance. Our friends across the pond have slated this, particularly the career mode and fantasy draft which is now called Connected Careers. Personally I don't see the problem and as this is my main game type, I think its a big improvement and you really feel yourself building a dynasty. The draft and scouting in particular is a monumental improvement and really adds to the game over previous years half baked effort. The news section with famous pundits such as Skip Bayless and various twitter reports is a great addition and adds massively to the realism in career mode.

As for gameplay, collision detection is far better with new Infinity Engine, the coverage on pass pays is 100% better, depending on a players Awareness rating you have far more busted coverages where a wide receiver is wide open. (Far more like the real thing.) Running the ball is again better and feels more like the 2011 version. Blocking and the general battle in the trenches is far better this year and you dont see your elite Left Tackle getting obliterated by anyone quicker who blitzes. As usual X Box live is fantastic and is worth the price alone, this is where the game comes into its own.

Theres room to improve of course. The Kinect interface is an early novelty that wanes quickly. The stadium upgrade section has gone which isn't a bad thing. It was just half baked last time and if done well it could still return and be a great addition. The clubs now have prestige ratings which are good but it would be great to enhance this and have an interface with the owner and GM. Each club would be different with the Patriots, Steelers and Packers seemless management and drafting to the likes of the Cowboys with their media hungry interfering owner creating different challenges & pressures. The Media section although very good will hopefully be enhanced massively. If your doing poorly and looking at a 1-15 season lets see nigh on empty stadiums and disgruntled fans booing or waering paper bags. This would work excellently with the owner interface and affect the amount you have to spend on your salary cap.

All in all this is an excellent game even though to many it will be far too similar to previous versions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rugby Challenge Review, 19 Oct 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Being a massive Rugby fan and after reading the favourable reviews I was looking forward to this game immensly. Initially I was impressed, there is far more polish to the opening screens and menus than the woeful RWC011 Game. The choice of teams is very impressive although the fact that the 6 Nations teams are not licenced is a major letdown, as you now have the Pro Evo style random names and kits. However after playing it for several days I feel slightly dissapointed at a missed opportunity and the game although a step in the right direction again fails to encapsulate the great game fully. The main gripes are as follows.
- No Licenced 6 Nations Teams
- Ratings are overly biased to Southern Hemisphere teams.
- Tackling is fairly timid and doesnt capture the enormity of the collisions, There should be a hit stick like in Maddens and there should be far more differnce from an AI sense when you get tackled head on by a 20st prop as opposed to Shane Williams.
- No really option to vary tactics, whereas you cant expect Maddens level there is no scope for playing a tight game around the fringes with a heavy pack as opposoed to a wide expansive game. Even RWC011 gave you the option of a simple back move switch etc.
- Offloads are bizare and impossible to stop unless you customise on the options screen.
- The passing is very poor and imo is the worse facet of the game, your backs align from almost behind the passer when you want a simple spread to create an overlap. (Very frustrating)
- The running angles arent realastic enough, a player can virtually turn 360 deg on a sixpence which means a fast back can weave in and out like a housefly.
- Commentary is ok but not as good as RWC011.
- Rugby fans love the techancilities and nuances of the game and they should play a bigger part. (The way Maddens AI captures the collision at the line of scrummage depending on a players ratings and body position etc would be perfect for rucking etc, although Lomus has far more effort than previous games again you feel that they are trying to make the game Arcadey and fast paced rather than encouraging different gameplans for weather conditions and opposition etc)

I know that all may sound overly critical but its only because this game could have been really really special. There are a lot of plus points and this has the makings of a great series, and with minimal alterations could be excellent. On the whole a decent enough game but not as good as it could of been. I would still recomend it.
