Inspirational and crucial reading for any trainee psychotherapist/analyst, 23 Mar 2011
This book is absolutely brilliant for a beginners guide or for a more experienced therapist. I first came across it as a complete beginner, at the start of my analytic training and found it invaluable. I would say it is an absolute must-read. It includes all the main concepts of analysis, and gives explanations of the main theories which are so easy to understand. It's a joy to read compared to some of the textbooks, and the descriptions flow so well. The case examples provide very good illustrations of how the theories work in practice also.
Overall, I would say that anyone interested in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy or psychotherapeutic counselling should give this book a try. It is a great place to start, but also a great place to refresh your memory and get more in-depth information once you are no longer a beginner!
