3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but confusing, 9 April 2013

It took me ages to get the hang of this game as there's not a lot of tutorial. The point is to simultaneously keep the rain/sun steady to provide grass for your sheep whilst you also keep them warm, dry and in love - to provide you with more lambs! My flock died in droves before I even half got the hang of it. And I still don't understand why only certain items are available at the farm shop. The current 66p price is fine for this cute but confusing and time-consuming game. Alas for me I paid a premium price for it - baaaah!

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining for very young kids, 9 April 2013

'Grandma' talks all the time, in a kindly, encouraging American voice, to 'find all the red flowers' or 'put all the carrots in Grandma's basket'. The exercises rather went over my 2 year old nephew's head, but he enjoyed watering the garden and periodically 'giving Grandma a kiss'! Very colourful and displays well on the Fire HD. Worth the money for an educational and entertaining game for very young kids.

Lucky for me this was the freebie taster. I usually love time management games, but not this one. It has an ultra-short and rather confusing tutorial, then off you go. Tap the guests, drag to suite, tap their suitcase and tap their room, tap to provide room service, tap to checkout... And all the time this poor girl with a trolley goes up and down in the lift. Sorry, not my thing at all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting storyline but boring gameplay, 9 April 2013

Interesting Ancient Egypt storyline but the gameplay is way too repetitive and not challenging enough. Build and upgrade houses, collect rent, sort out the inevitable repairs. The constant distraction of having to instruct every household to go and gather water is just annoying - the developers should have thought of a better sidetrack event than that. Displays just about OK on the Fire HD, though some items are hard to spot and the right-hand side of the play area is obscured. In-app upgrade to the full game is £3.30 - quite expensive for this average time management game. Better spending your money on 'Royal Envoy', a far superior, longer, more challenging game with a lot of humour in it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Time Management/Strategy game, 5 April 2013

Didn't know if I'd enjoy this as much as the superb 'Royal Envoy' Royal Envoy (PC CD), but once I got used to the concept of building and selling properties I found it very enjoyable. A classic Time Management/Strategy game, as are the other games in the Build-a-Lot series. You move from town to town developing specific properties, managing your workforce and materials, selling-on to gain cash and build bigger. Later levels are very hard to achieve within the 'rosette' deadline, but the game gives you quite a lot of leeway to complete each level. Very good value as there are lots of levels to play, and quite compulsive once you get into it. Runs without a hitch on my Vista laptop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior Wordsearch, 5 April 2013

As you create words from adjacent letters in any direction, new letters drop down to fill their place. Large display that looks good and runs well on the Fire HD; no annoying music and very discreet ads. A range of timed and relaxed modes, and tile colours. Nowhere near as challenging as the superb W.E.L.D.E.R, but a really excellent freebie for word addicts. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars More weird & wonderful golf, 5 April 2013

A really nice freebie in which you work your way around a set of bizarre golf courses, avoiding weird and wonderful obstacles. You can try out your shots first on the practice ranges. Simple controls, good sound fx, and thankfully the music can be muted. I wouldn't play this for hours on end but it's an entertaining game. More varied and humourous than its predecessor SSG (also free). You can buy 'bux' in-app to give you advantages, but they're not necessary. Runs and displays well on the Fire HD.

A nice freebie. Work your way around the bizarre golf courses, avoiding weird and wonderful obstacles. You can try out your shots first on the practice ranges which allow you to retake shots without penalty. Simple controls, good sound fx, and thankfully the music can be muted. You can purchase 'bux' in-app to let you retake shots on the 'real' course, but really not necessary. Wouldn't play this for hours on end and its successor, SSG2 (also free), is more entertaining. Runs and displays well on the Fire HD.

You have to log in to Facebook or via email before being allowed to play this game, so I didn't get past the registration page. The description ought to make clear that this is a shared game played online. Lucky for me it was free. Deleted from my Kindle.

2.0 out of 5 stars Uncomfortable input, 25 Mar. 2013

This review is from: Crossword (App)
English clues and spelling and a good range of arrow -word puzzles. But on the Kindle, when you select a clue the huge pop-up keyboard masks most of the puzzle, which makes for an uncomfortable input experience. And if you misspell a word your effort is wiped out! An odd mix of good puzzles and awful handling.
