1.0 out of 5 stars A WHOLE LOT of nothing really about a VERY BASIC technique., 16 Dec 2012
This book tells in a a very complicated and very lengthy way how to do something EXTREMELY simple.( progress the Sun and angles of a birth chart approximately 1 degree per year of life and compare it with the natal points and planetary positions ). This is basically the same technique as "Solar Arc Directions"..but since it is maybe a hair or so more accurate due to the seemingly overly complicated is called instead "Primary Directions". (or am i missing something here? please correct me if i am mistaken...but method explained in 200 or so pages in this book is basically the same as "Solar Arc Direction" method..moving the Sun and angles roughly 1 degree for each year of life?) Why need 200 pages of just paper with typing that repeats over and over about the most minute details of a technique that could hardly be any easier is just to me a way to sell a book with a nice painting on the cover. I also suspect the other 5 star reviews of this this is just so overly complicated a book for such as simple thing that it is like instead a study of a mathematical problem that results in nothing much of anything more than what is already known by the "Solar Arc Directions" and not a study of the techinques of progressions used in Astrology.

Save your money and look into other books that describes shortly the "Solar Arc" technique (or look for how to do it on the internet if need to) Better to look for books that describe much more precise progressed techniques such as Secondary ,Tertiary, or Minor Progressions.( "Progressions Directions and Rectification" by Zipporah Pottenger Dobyns , for example, will sum up in a few pages if even that what this book pain stakingly explains in 200 or so pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Good Documentary on Winston Churchill & his Personal Bodyguard, 11 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Churchill's Bodyguard [DVD] (DVD)
I was not expecting to like this documentary as much as I did, as it didn't seem as interesting a subject until I began watching it. This documentary details how Churchill spent much of his time before , during, and directly after World War 2 when he lost the re election for Prime Minister in 1945? or 46? and gives great insight into his personal character, mannerisms, and thoughts before, during the war as well as afterwards as he unexpectedly had to leave Downing Street. From my understanding, his personal bodyguard, Walter H. Thompson, wrote a book (from which this documentary is based on) some years after WW2, despite Churchill's and Scotland Yard's protests and even threats to take away his retirement pension if he published the book in the 1950s and it became an instantaneous "best seller" which made him lots of money as he also became famous and traveled around Britain to give many lectures on Churchill and his time as his bodyguard .I actually learned more about Winston Churchill through this documentary than I would have learned by reading his OWN account of his career or his auto biography or other biographies on him i am sure.

Highy Recommend this as it is objective, informative, very nicely presented, and is 13 hours long too to also make it a nice bargain.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars for a .."Not bad...not Great" Rehash of Same Stories on Adolf Hitler & Nazis, 29 Nov 2012
This is a 3. 5 star review actually...the reason being is this is mostly just a rehash of same story told in many other documentaries..not much new..but it is good nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolutely Marvelous Documentary on "the Vikings", 26 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Vikings [DVD] (DVD)
This 3 hour documentary has to be the most extensive and in depth one i have yet seen on "the Vikings". I was really impressed too with the presenter Neil Oliver in this documentary particularly as he makes especially interesting this series as he travels to parts of Scandinavia , Russia , Istanbul & the Middle East, and back to the UK and Ireland to show us a much more complete picture of the Viking trade routes and ways of life. Very well done. This definitey deserves an A + or 5 star rating.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bits about Hermann Goering and his career mixed with seeming propaganda stories, 17 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Goering - A Career [DVD] (DVD)
I was really kind of disappointed with this i was hoping after reading the above review for something that showed in depth with regards to the life and career of Hermann Goering,,however what i watched instead are bits of about his life & career mixed with bits of same ole stories on mistreatment of Jews , "the Holocaust" and attrocities at concentration camps..etc. etc..( that hear on most WW2 or Nazi documentaries it seems)..and what there is of the life and career of Goering seems to discredit only Hermann Goering and seems to be biased and unobjective. I was hoping for something more scholarly and objective..but the general feeling one gets from watching this is that it is a allied propaganda film about Hermann Goering.

All in all I feel it is worth a watch..but dont expect a real thorough documentary on Hermann Goering. (that is only for the cover to get you to buy the rest of what seems sneakily mixed in with what should be a documentary on Hermann Goering).

3.0 out of 5 stars Very average documentary..not as good as i was expecting, 15 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
this documentary is very average and only 47 minutes long. I feel it is overpriced on Amazon..and really not worth the price.

I would not recommend you are not going to get really that great of information from it that most people dont already know about the Vikings.

3.0 out of 5 stars It is only "okay"...due to docu-dramas that make it seem like "fake history", 14 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Wehrmacht [DVD] (DVD)
In this documentary,,there is good film footage ..however the "docu-drama" parts of it make it seem fake and like "re-created history". Also..there is questionable sources used to create this history. "Recently released top secret documents" documenting conversations of generals , soldiers kept in British captivity are used . Diaries and letters are also used. etc. etc. So,,you are kind of irritated that this is maybe just a bunch of bologne that is being acted for you like a movie. Also there is the usual 1/4 portion about "The Holocaust" and mistreatment of Jewish people,,etc, etc...but this seems to be the expected for most WW2 documentaries (for any aspect).

One other major complaint...this documentary really is not much about "The Wehrmacht" as I had expected. It is more just a general story or outline of the battles of WW2 from the German soldiers perspective. I had expected that it would talk about things such as the original formation of the Wehrmacht, how men were recruited into the Wehrmacht, how training was like, how average young men were forced to join..what happened if didnt join, how life was like for the average soldier, how it compared to WW1 period etc. This would have set it apart from other documentaries..however this is just your average WW2 documentary.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best bargains for a documentary i have found yet on Amazon, 9 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Kings and Queens [DVD] (DVD)
I was not expecting much for the price I paid for this documentary..but this documenary surprisingly was as good or even better than many of the very high priced quality documentaries such as David Starkey's "Monarchs" (although it was very good as well). The presenter is a Cambridge university professer and is very informative and pleasant to watch (sober personality and non-ego-centric). It is a little over 4.5 hours long..and he covers the time from the Normans up till Elizabeth II and the present. I only wished the documentary was 4 times longer..but nevertheless what there is it is fairly well covered .. (Even in 4.5 hours)

I highly recommend this...and really it is undervalued.(but maybe should not tell about that)

3.0 out of 5 stars "Fluff T.V." mixed with interesting documentary, 3 Nov 2012
This review is from: Coast - BBC Series Six [DVD] (DVD)
This is the kind of "documentary" to just turn on to have playing in the back ground to keep you company and every now and again you might see something interesting show up on it. You might hear about different types of rocks, how to make copper, cook sea weed,, how to care for baby seals. how to cook crabs,,,see some bats in caves...hover crafts......or you might hear about some black guy in WW2 that was discriminated against or you might actually see something more along what i was expecting to see when I bought this documentary..and that is THE COASTLINE OF BRITAIN AND ITS GEOGRAPHY WITH HISTORY MIXED IN AS WELL.

It seems to make seeming celebrities out of its presenters..."Neil Oliver"..."Alice Robertson".."Mark Hortan"..and a few others. While this seems irritatingly okay,,,,after reading all the suspiciously "Awesome!" 5 star reviews left on Amazon for it ,,I was not expecting such fluffy content.

I think this "documentary" is meant to be "entertaining" more than it is a realy scholarly effort..but is worth a look if you have not watched it yet. I think they missed a opportunity to do something more scholarly ..which would have interested other viewers instead.
