5.0 out of 5 stars ... a healthy alternative to wheat spaghetti and am absolutely delighted by it, 7 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this product to test its ability to make a healthy alternative to wheat spaghetti and am absolutely delighted by it.
Easy to use, great vegetable "spaghetti", handy tools, easy to clean and small enough to fit somewhere in the cupboard for storage (not that it will spend much time in the cupboard).

Ideal for soups and stir-fries or just interesting looking salad.
As a bonus, professional follow up customer service too, something that is lacking with other product providers!

2.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photography but dull as ditchwater, 11 July 2014

Beautiful photography but dull as ditchwater. Gave it to some Italians (aged 60) who reported it to be the film to end their lives by. Shame, had hoped for something accessible, rather than something pretentious.

Captivating from start to finish, this book is worthy of being transferred to film. I can say nothing more beyond buy a copy for all your (probably girl) friends, daughters, sisters, mums, and children aged 14+. A movie it must become (and it's nothing like Twilight, far superior).

2.0 out of 5 stars Publisher should be ashamed, 2 Jun. 2012

This observation is not about the storytelling but about the publishers lack of proof-reading standards.

When investing in a book it's essential not to confuse the reader. There are several proofing mistakes that when reading the sentence, do not make sense. For example "Next to her were two older-looking men, one of whom was called Bill, and Shona, who'd informed Zoe that she was a "bag of nerves"......" pg 25 Shona a man's name? She?

"...lent Zoe a hair product that definately helped her curls look more meant and less randomly natural" Pg 27. Meant? Kempt?

To cap it all, on page 28 there is an insert offering a returns service. Good idea, can't bear to see what other horrors will appear throughout. Won't be asking for a replacement.

Either the proofer was asleep or this is over-reliance on spell-check. Can only assume the story is good as it hit The Sunday Times Top Ten Best Seller list, but it's certainly not on mine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight and unengaging, 15 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Summer School (Paperback)
Having never read this author and going on previous (hyperbolic) recommendations, gave this a whirl as the book title had potential. Set in Italy, the book promises to follow the lives of guests who have come to Summer School for a life changing experience. Potential. Lots of potential.

However, disappointingly, I found this to be a very lightweight offering, unengaging, full of whining characters, sappy, predictable and well, barely worth dedicating the time to get as far as page 47.

This is a personal view and the book may please readers who simply want something to dip into, poolside and with a very large glass of, well, anything.

Sorry, but not my idea of a super holiday read.

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as the book!!, 15 April 2012

If you enjoyed the book, you should enjoy the film.

The characters are well cast (I didn't know the actors but then, that's probably what made the film believable) and they played out the book in a way that each scene was fully recognisable. The DVD version cuts out a couple of the book scenes but in no way of detriment to the book version or the story.

For younger viewers, our thirteen year old enjoyed this film and could engage with the story, don't know about younger ones.

Having watched the film twice, I would recommend the subtitles be put on as some of the conversations between the Help are sometimes very hard to pick up - possibly because the discussions are not in clear English but colloquial language. The subtitles really help pick up what's being said.

Great film. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, endearing and unputdownable, 15 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this as a holiday read and have not regretted it at all. This is one of those books that engages the reader by page four and keeps you in it until the end. And then you wished there was more.

Very well written, it is full of delightful characters, probably none of whom you've ever met in real life but "know" them instantly. The humour is often both tragic and ironic at the same time but doesn't leave you heartbroken. In fact, at some stage of your life, you have probably shared the odd little moments of each person within.

After reading this book, it is unlikely you will look at little cakes, antique dresses or picnic baskets the same way again.

Overall score 9/10 (it would be 10/10 if the book went on even longer).

Should this book be made into a rom/com movie? Definately yes!

Giant Cupcake Mould/ Big Top Cupcake Bake Set/ Baking
Giant Cupcake Mould/ Big Top Cupcake Bake Set/ Baking

2.0 out of 5 stars Lack of recipe instructions - not helpful, 14 Feb. 2012
Have used this product three times, each time using the discovery method of cake baking.

Why?

The single sheet just says preheat the over and mix the cake mix according to your recipe.

This product could have been useful if it offered tried and tested recipes that worked before using own recipes (Delia's actually) that just didn't quite work.

First time, the cupcake base was too sloppy.
Second time, both elements did not cook throughout
Third time, cake mix ended up being recycled into trifle.
