5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore the critics...., 3 May 2001
This review is from: Munki (Audio CD)
..if you are a fan of the later work of the Chain, beginning with Honey's Dead, you'll love this album. If you are more into the tinny, over-feedback sound of the 80s, don't bother. A couple of the tracks on Munki are so-so, but the rest more than make up for minor lapses in Chain coolness. Especially good are Perfume, Commercial and Cracking Up. Make up you're own mind. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive post-FON dirge without any decent songs, 3 May 2001
This review is from: Zoon (Audio CD)
The lyrical beauty and operatic excellence of the FON is sorely lacking in this offering. As with Rubicon, which was formed by the remaining members of the FON, singer McCoy's Nefilim reinforces the fact that going it alone doesn't usually work. I remember buying Rubicon's first album and taking it back after the first listening. The assistant was sympathetic - it'd had the same reaction from many FON fans. I tried to like "Zoon", I really did. But there's nothing to like. Lots of shouting, train-like repetition and an ultra thrash metal sound leads me to the conclusion that McCoy release "Zoon" to retain the Nefilim name, as with the Sisters of Mercy's Andrew Eldritch and The Sisterhood. Although "Gift" was actually quite good. I've listened to "Zoon" about 10 times over the past two years, and today tried it again, but no. There's nothing there. Cue naff quote about "Elizium for the sacred souls" or the like. And the track "Shine" is about as tolerable as the worst song the FON ever produced. Or worse.
