5.0 out of 5 stars Best book of 2011, 21 Aug 2011
The author's last book To The Last Round, about the Imjim River battle was fantastic and this one is even better .I found it really terriflying to read as the British ,Australians and Americans fight off hordes of Chinese bearing down on them The Chosin must rank as just as bad to fight in as Stalingrad was for the Germans. Only the discipline and sheer guts of 41 Commando and 1st US Marines got them through the trap the Chinese had laid for them An epic story, sadly almost forgotten. This book deserves to be a classic alongside those of Beevor and Hastings

Ive got all of Ian Knight's book on the subjecct so i m thinking will it be a rehash? No! it really is gripping with fresh in sights on many of the characters Mehlokazulu and Charlie Harford for instance. If you want rehash read Saul David. This is to Ian Knight what Sgt Pepper was to the Beatles

5.0 out of 5 stars Redcoats Last Stand, 17 Oct 2005
Ive always been interested i n the Anglo/ Zulu War and other the years read many books on the subject. Some have gone over the same old story. This book by a serving British Army officer is one of the best ive read for ages. It focuses mainly on the British redcoat companies and how they fought and died.It seems they were not overwhelmed by the Zulu army in minutes but actually gathered together i n groups and fought it out back to back . The discipline of these doomed men was incredible. The author dispells many myths o n the battle. This book should become a classic of its kind . I couldnt put it down.
