The picture restorer has served his country in an exemplary fashion, but the government still want more from him. This is another splendid book, and should lead to several more episodes in the life of Gabriel Allon

5.0 out of 5 stars The old warrior is back to his old tricks, 16 Nov 2013

After having read the last novel about Jack Reacher, I rated it as the worst in a particularly good sequence of books, but the author obviously had the basis of the latest volume firmly in mind, if not on paper, because Jack is in the thick of skulduggery, breaking arms, fingers and anything else that comes his way, at the same time, consuming copious amounts of coffee and junk food, whilst hopping in and out of bed with a lady Military Police Officer. She was the perfect woman for him, pretty, vivacious and sexy, but not in search of a long relationship.

Lee Child has put Jack Reacher back where he belongs. I wonder where he will lead him next!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not his best, but still pretty good, 7 April 2013

It took too long to get going, and I nearly abandoned it. However, once it finally gets under way, it accelerates to a truly fitting climax.

5.0 out of 5 stars Horse calendars, 7 April 2013

Every year, I purchase, for my wife, a Boiselle calendar, and this is the best one that she has ever published. However, it does take up a lot of wallspace.

3.0 out of 5 stars A tight fit!, 7 April 2013

Wuite useful, but too much of its inner capacity is taken up the seams, and my insulin pen would not fit comffortably in it. The isea of the gel bag is good and effective, and kept the insulin at a satisfactory temperarure.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beginning and Ending, 12 Oct 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It started off in usual Jack Reacher style, and finished in a similar vein, but the middle portion of the book never seemed to get anywhere, It didn't create enough suspemse, and the truth, when it eventually emerged, was a bit far-fetched.

I have never found Jack Reacher books to be boring, before, and can only suggest that the creator of this superb character has had a mild dose of writer's block.

Why was Jack Reacher on his way to Virginia? Let us hope that when he gets there, he has a particularly interesting and violent time, and that the author describes it in the manner of the books prior to this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars On His Majesty's Service, 18 April 2012

Followers of Matthew Hervey's life and career have been eagerly awaiting this lates book, but, frankly I found it dull, uninteresting and heavy going. There is far too much dialogue, and insufficient action. Far too much is made of Hervey's friendship with Fairbrother, who is sometimes familiar with Hervey, almost to the point of insubordination. I doubt if I am alone in hoping that Hervey would resolve matters with his wife, but very little mention was made of her. All of Allan Mallinson's previous books about Hervey have been worth four or five stars, but this one just about scrapes its way to two.
