Mod As It Was, 13 Oct. 2010
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Don's personal stories of post war London, and growing up with all it did or didn't offer are fantastic. He really made me feel part of what his life was like growing up and running with the local gangs and the occasional nutter in 60's London. His dedication to the Mod way of life is second to none from the clothes he wore to the music he listened to, and the scooter he rode. He tells of how Mod was everything to him and how it imploded leaving him feeling lost and disconnected. Reading about the music scene and how it changed through the sixties, dealing with the colour bar as a black music lover, tuning into pirate radio stations, buying imported 45's, takes you right back there. Mods old and new, and anyone with an interest in sixties life and music should read this book.
Brilliant read and well worth tracking a copy down.
