I bought this for work and use it often ( almost everyday).
It seems a little fragile on first inspection but so far I have no complaints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for Morrissey fans, 27 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Autobiography (Paperback)
I loved this book for many reasons. It's well written and the style is quite original and unmistakably "Morrissey".
The first part , dealing with his childhood and adolescence in Manchester, is marvelous and very evocative. It becomes clear where the inspiration to The Smiths songs came from.
The second and third parts of the book deal with the smiths and solo career. There are some very funny stories and it's quite an interesting read. Despite revealing quite a lot and coming across as honest, Morrissey somehow manages to keep his mystique intact, which is remarkable.

The court case against Smiths drummer Mike Joyce, was a bit long and my least favorite part of the book. Luckily, I loved everything else. A must have for all Smiths/Morrissey fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let the right one in, let the old dreams die..., 11 April 2009
This review is from: Let the Right One In (Paperback)
Let the right one in caught my attention because a film based on this book did win several awards and is now considered one of the best vampire movies of the past decades. So, before watching the film, I decided to read the book and I must say it took me by surprise.

The story is centered on the 12-year-old Oskar, a lonely kid who finds the perfect companion, a 12 girl who has recently moved next-door and turns out to be a vampire. But this is much more than your typical vampire story. It's a beautiful and disturbing tale describing the love, loneliness and violent reality of its characters. Also, as strange as it may sound, it feels very real and has some creepy moments that really stay in your mind.

I strongly suggest that you read this book and then see the original Swedish film (because there is an American remake on the way).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 11 April 2009
If you know anything about Morrissey then you know what to expect from this book: a collection entertaining interviews, full of witty observations, and a glimpse of one of the most interesting and influential artists in Rock music.

These interviews also provide a window to his work over the years, from The Smiths in the early 80's to his most recent albums - passing through life in Manchester, London L.A. and Rome. I did laugh out loud at some points - there is no doubt, you're gonna miss him when he's gone.

3.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, 4 April 2009
This review is from: The Hazards Of Love (Audio CD)
I really like the Decemberists. The mix of Colin's voice with good lyrics with their beautiful melodies always works for me. However I must say that this CD is not their best. With The Hazards of Love, The Decemberists venture into new ground: it's like an Opera Rock with some progessive rock, balads and heavier moments, but in the end the story didn't really appeal to me and I miss the beauty of songs such as the recent "Sleepless" (included in the compilation Dark Was The Night).

I can't help it. I'm disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect compilation, 4 April 2009
In compilations with various artists, frequently you find a few odd tracks mixed with some very good ones. It's not the case of this magnificent realease. Dark Was the Night is a perfect compilation, full of great songs from artists such as Antony, Arcade Fire, Beirut, Andrew Bird, Cat Power Sufjan Stevens,Bon Iver, Yo La Tengo, Te National, etc...
Also it's aim is to promote AIDS awareness. A MUST BUY.

5.0 out of 5 stars Morrissey at his best, 4 April 2009
This review is from: Years of Refusal (Audio CD)
Years of Refusal is Morrissey's best work since Vauxhall and I. Urgent and fresh, Morrissey's songs are as relevant as ever. This is a great album by a true original artist.
