5.0 out of 5 stars Three Very Different Albums, 19 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fantastic value!! Three very different albums:

"Daybreaker" - very much more mellow, rounded, with a great production. The contrast of Sam Carter's "clean" singing and rasping screaming is particularly good.

"The Here and Now" - Architects fans seem to pan this album, as it's apparently more "commercial", but that's no bad thing: there are some great riffs / lead, wonderfully catchy chorus and great lyrics

"Hollow Crown" - it may be heresy, but I find this the least accessible of the albums: it is reminiscent of Nirvana's first album - dark and heavy... although it's bound to grow on me

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Core Architects, 19 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fantastic album!! Very different from the last album (Daybreaker) as it a full-on, force of nature! Unlike a lot of of bands, their music is always melodious - even when Sam Carter is screaming his head off (-which is, let's face it, most of the time). I love the complexity of the music; the frequent break downs, the lyrics... heck I love every darn thing about this album! Epitaph were live streaming this album on YouTube, so check it out there - then buy a copy!!

Great unit! Bought this as a repackaged/return item from Amazon - and cannot tell the difference from new! Graphics / picture is sharp and colours great. We mainly use this item linked to an X-box via HDMI cable - the built in speakers being a real boon and difficult to find on a 24" LED unit. We also have a PC connected in via VGA running Windows XP and the picture is good - but not as sharp as the HDMI/X-box (-as you would expect). The Windows desktop is stretched out to wide screen format by default - and we haven't got around to figuring out how to change that yet, but that's no fault of the unit. I did try it, briefly, with my Linux (Fedora 15) PC via the DVI connection at 1440x900 resolution - and the picture was easily as crisp as the X-Box, if not better.

In summary: it's difficult to find a good-value 24" LED with HDMI/DVI/VGA input and speakers built in - but this one definitely fits the bill. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it - as well as the Amazon service / refurb option

4.0 out of 5 stars Very detailed treatment, 6 Sep 2010
This is a really good, in-depth, book - but you need to be prepared for a lot of reading.

One thing I really like (-as I only have Elements 4.0) is that every feature explained details exactly which versions of Elements support it, so this is not just a book for Elements 7.0 owners (-despite the title). The author gives a lot of background and lots of photos and examples (-which of course ARE of v7.0) but that does not detract significantly.

One note of caution: the author is a Pro photographer, so newbies to the subject may be daunted by the depth - and the breadth - of the subjects covered. However, to it's credit, it IS a very well organised book and - if you feel a subject area is of no interest - it's perfectly possible to skip that section/chapter (-with the exception of the introductory ones I imagine) and just read the ones you desire.

Some of the chapters at the end read like afterthoughts and confused me: for example, there is a section on Adobe Lightroom, but I don't think the author sufficiently explained what it WAS before diving into it's various features, but as this is a book about Elements, that's small beer.

All in all, if you really want to get to grips with Elements and what it can (-or can't) do for you, then this is the one to buy. At over 400 colour pages, it's a steal at the price that Amazon is asking as well..

Annoyingly, this DVD has never managed to complete a round without erroring out, so I'm afraid it's only 1 star. Hopefully, it's just my particular disc and not a design fault...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, Concise, Practical Advice, 6 Sep 2010
This book is really aimed at people who know a bit about photography, but who want to improve. I'm not sure I'd recommend it to a complete novice, as the aim is to tell you how to get your photos how to look like the example, not the theory behind it. However, if you have a DSLR and you just want to know what you need to do with it to get a certain effect, then this is ideal. Some other points of note:

- you do have to put up with Scott's, um, humour (-should that be humor?), which can be a bit annoying at times
- this is concise and too the point: most topics are covered in one page (-and that page includes the photo as well), so it's great if you don't want to spend days reading around the topic
- similarly it's great for reference
- pocket sized for portability!

All in all, it does exactly what it aims to do, without wasting your valuable time : that alone merits 5 stars

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job nicely, 6 Sep 2010
I bought this for a 14 Mpixel Pentax K20D and I can get around 100 shots on the 4Gb card in Adobe RGB Raw format. No noticeable shutter lag when shooting single shot RAW.. not really used it in continous shooting mode or JPEG though. No problems with supplier - came quickly and experienced no hassles : would recommend

4.0 out of 5 stars Great if you are travelling light, 6 Sep 2010
I bought this for a Pentax K20D -and this fits it nicely with standard kit lens attached or my old Tamron 18-150mm zoom (-sadly, not the old K series 80-210mm one though). Other points of note:

- can be worn over shoulder or holster style, from a belt
- pocket inside is enough to store a spare battery, cables, a filter
- pocket outside is only big enough for the USB cable or an SD card
- non-slip "rubberised" coating on the inside of the shoulder strap

No problem with service/supplier : arrived promptly without problems. Would recommend to others

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as the original, 6 Sep 2010
I bought this for a new K20D and the battery is as good if not better than the original : both seem to last ages and - if left long enough -seem to recover well without recharge. No problems recharging with the standard Pentax charger. Arrived promptly, no problems with service - definitely recommended
