49th parallel, 7 Oct 2012
This is a very interesting adventure story set during the 2nd world war, acted by a disdinguished group of actors, & with beautiful music by Vaughan Williams.

Shut up & kiss me, 7 Oct 2012
This is often very amusing, but it also very beautifully traces the growth of a relationship between two lovely men, & I love happy endings!

Achilles, 2 July 2012
Beautifully written & imagined story about Achilles & Patroclus (narrated by Patroclus) and the Trojan War, and the fraught relationship of Achilles with his Goddess mother, who does not approve of Patroclus.

Ripping yarns, 17 April 2012
These "Ripping yarns" are very amusing, & poke fun at traditional schoolboy "improving" stories. Michael Palin shows considerable versatility in his portrayals.

Ashton ballets, 17 April 2012
Two very different Ashton ballets, & a series of pas de deux & solos, all very well done. They show Ashton's musicality & versatility.

Giselle, 17 April 2012
Very interesing historical performances, unfortunately in black & white, of "Giselle" & "Les Sylphides". The sound isn't marvellous, but just to see again Alicia Markova & other ballerinas of 50 or more years ago is lovely.

Son frere, 7 Feb 2012
Four brothers, one of whom has AIDS: the family background is well portrayed, but the character of the AIDS brother is not sufficiently developed or explained, & his relationship with his youngest brother could be explored further.

Science delusion, 7 Feb 2012
A very interesting book written by a scientist, highlighting the unwarranted assumptions & lack of logical thought behind some of today's "scientific" orthodoxy.

King of the Badgers, 4 Feb 2012
A well written book about a number of people in a Devon town. There is a large cast of characters, & the author differentiates them well & makes them all individual & interesting. The author is not afraid to use strong language or to describe sexual activity, in particular a gay orgy.

Super singing of "Tatiana's letter song" from Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" & lovely singing in an interesting selection of Russian songs, some with a spoken introducion.
