5.0 out of 5 stars A Golden History In A Golden Glass, 15 April 2013
This review is from: C.ASK Whisky: Volume 1 (Paperback)
A fascinating read for both the whisky connoisseur and the uninitiated alike.
In C.ASK WHISKY,you travel the world and hear the very personal and individual experiences of those living at the very heart of the 'whisky community'..
And for anyone who thinks 'whisky community' means 'Scotland'.. buy the book!
Make no mistake.. whisky is a global phenomenon. It is one of the fastest growing economies of any business sector anywhere in the world.
In C.ASK WHISKY, we hear from both sides of this ever spinning and rising coin.
We hear the stories from todays Master Blenders and trace back through the generations to the roots and beginnings of their personal 'whisky family tree'.
We hear funny tales, clever ideas and innovative thinking. We hear of great successes and tragic outcomes. We hear of Al Capone and Prohibition.. 'bootleg' and 'moonshine'. We hear of actual events that took place and were not simply made up for the movies.
From the personal and the family, we move to the stories and views of multi-national companies, and how they have come to position themselves with, and associate themselves to, the whisky industry, which is in it's own right a billion dollar industry!
The history of whisky is a remarkable one, and is far more complex than the 'average man on the street' might have believed and you can read it all here. There are many detailed accounts of the many processes involved in it's making, and how acting on a hunch, or through scientific determination, altered the final whisky tasting experience.
You begin to understand that whisky is not simply a drink.. it is not simply an industry.. it is a way of life. It is a life that is continually evolving and expanding.. It is reaching out to others who were hitherto unaware that they were about to be tapped on the shoulder and invited to experience.. 'the dram'
As you next walk through your local supermarket, and your brain registers all those very famous brand names - which I don't need to mention here as you know most of them anyway! - If the thought.. "I wonder how that bottle comes to be sitting on that shelf?" comes to mind.. well..
C.ASK WHISKY has all the answers.
