Lovely coffee table, geniune beechwood - has wow factor and draws compliments from all who see it. The price for such a lot of beech is fantastic. So big its getting on for a low dining table, very solid, looks like two collosal butchers blocks on legs. You need to assemble it where you want it as it is very heavy and you'll need two people given that weight. To get the shelf in I had to loosen off the legs to allow room and retighten - the stated assembly instructions I couldn't get to work for this part. Ample room for lots of coffee cups and several large books plus loads more on the shelf. Surface is too nice at present to put coffee cups on or risk spilling, so I've got some big bamboo trays on top. Apart from the weight the other issue is the way the legs attach using nutserts and a single long bolt each - I've always found nutsert go loose after a bit but as I don't expect to move this much that may not be a problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars My First Air-conditioner, 28 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Yes it has a german (euro) two pin round plug with earth strips at the sides, but the adapters for UK use are about £2 and up. I got a £2.99 one locally, there are loads on Amazon. The voltage range of the power supply on this thing is fine for the UK too. Came in from Belgium in a huge box. As it's a tad heavy it takes a bit of getting out of the box, best lay it down on it's side. It has a fairly rigid hose for sticking out of the nearest window or drill a very big hole for the hose in the wall if it's staying in one place. It puts out a lot of cold air very quickly and has a nice directional blower. Very easy to move about given it has casters and a strong handle, plus as it's a plastic case it's not as heavy as the metal ones. As we only have a month or so when it's needed the UK it's small size and ease of movement make it simple to store away as well. Downside it that it's a noisy thing; you are not going to sleep with it on in the same room, that said I've always had that problem with the aircon in hotels as well. In the recent muggy weather it's been a godsend, put it on for half an hour to get a room nice and cool, then if you keep the door shut you've got an hour or two of lovely cool dry air - smashing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easier, Less Expensive and a Lower Fire Risk Than Teak Oil for My Patio Furniture, 27 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was rather put off teak oil for protecting my patio furniture owing to all the warnings about spontaneous combustion which is due to the linseed oil apparently. As if that wasn't enough, you seem to need an awful lot of this dangerous and expensive substance to do the job. In search of another way I came across this stuff which pudding basins import from the USA. It's somewhere between orange oil and vaseline, comes out like orange smelling jelly with a whiff of petrol about it. You need something like a microfibre cloth to apply it with, brushes use too much and other cloths leave a lot of fluff on your furniture. Goes on fairly easy, just make sure you give it a couple of days in the sun to dry else you risk waxing everyones clothes as well! I've put 3 coats on my 6 chairs and large oval table now and i've used about half the bottle. After a few weeks the rain still beads off and the wood grain still looks lovely. You need to reapply this more often than teak oil (a couple of times each summer apparently) but given the price, coverage and safety this looks like a better way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top German Chair Engineering, 27 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great chair for the money. It has adjustments of height and tilt, I found it easy to get a comfortable position. The chair spins well and the arms are height & yaw adjustable. It has a proper damped piston height adjust, the levers for this and tilt even have finger indentations so you can grip them more easily. It arrived in a very big box from Germany and took me about 15 minutes to assemble, most of which was spent doing the arms which are the only parts that don't push together. Compared to my Aeron chair at work, the arms are slightly wobbly, the castors don't roll so easily and it's narrower. Given I could currently buy seven of these and have useful change for the price of an Aeron I'm very pleased!

5.0 out of 5 stars Note on uk power adapters, 24 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The power adapter for this did arrive, as others have said, with a 2 pin euro plug. I noticed the 2 pin plug was the snap in type - ie. it is just the pins separate from the actual power supply - and similar to those used with western digital external hard drive power supplies. Used snap in uk three pin module from wd power adapter and it works fine - much neater and less unwieldy than using shaving adapter. Not sure if you can buy those three pin modules separately though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lemonade with ice! Quick Review of the restored Blu Ray version., 10 Sept. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The restored version issued today on Blu Ray is wonderful. The detail is fantastic, from the small figures lost in the desert landscapes to the colours in the blankets to the small things caught in dust storms. The DTS sound is stirring, you get caught up in the thunderous charge on Aqaba, the great themes of the score and all the well remembered lines. After watching it today on a big home projector screen and full surround all I can say is that THIS is a proper film and I cannot wait to see it on a really big screen at the cinema in November.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic In 3D, 12 Nov. 2011
I saw this on a Samsung active 3D system and it is amazing. The cave paintings make much more sense in 3D when you see the way they use the relief of the cave walls. Since we'll probably never (and should never) go in this cave, this is the closest we'll get to the oldest known art and it's not just a few lines on the wall - these drawings are startlingly realistic depictions of animals that no longer exist, sometimes scratched over by cave bears and in some cases covered up by thousands of years of calcite growth.

One of the earlier reviews comments on the 2D quality and it is often very grainy as is the (two images) 3D watched without glasses. For reasons beyond my recall of science, maths and filters, the grain is largely gone when you watch it through 3D active shutter glasses - any 3D filter experts want to comment on this?

Amongst Werner Herzog films I've seen, this one seems rather upbeat and he's actually less in the centre of things than in some of the others. He almost seems to joking around with 3D when he has one chap repeatedly poke a spear at the camera.

If you have an interest in human history, the history of art, geology or you just want to watch something breathtaking, then see this and try to see it in 3D if you can.

4.0 out of 5 stars What the led colours mean, 1 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After several attempts to get this to pair with a qed uplay to take advantage of aptx I was giving up when I found the review on german amazon that explained how the led works. This thing has only one button, if you hold it down for a few seconds and let go the led will go solid blue then rapidly flash blue. It won't pair with uplay in this mode. Instead hold the button down a bit longer before letting go and it flash blue then red. If you've got the uplay in pairing mode and it finds it then it flashes blue every few seconds to indicate it's paired. If the instructions explained this it would be much easier for first time users! Aptx sound is better than the standard Bluetooth sub-band codec but it does seem to be prone to breakup when things get very loud. Now it's paired the combination of this thing and the uplay gizmo let's me listen wirelessly to my telly with any headphones using the tv remote to change the volume and no audio synch problems is great as others have said.

4.0 out of 5 stars A better film in High-Definition, 9 Oct. 2008
This review is from: Reign Of Fire [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I watched a DVD of this on a normal size TV a year or so ago, and wasn't that impressed.

With a projector and something that can play the maxed out 4.6Mbit/sec LPCM soundtrack, parts of the Blu-Ray are simply astounding. It's no masterpiece - the plot is full of holes and the song at the end is awful, but who cares when you can feel the dragons land in your lap?

Cristian Bale proves again that he is a fine actor, at least during the earlier parts of the film in which I felt he gave a great portrayal of a leader who lacked certainty and had lost his way. Bale does much of his acting with facial expressions in this film, and the high definition here makes it much easier to see and connect with that.

So, for me, a film a lot of people look down upon has found a new life here because it's much easier to connect both with the emotions of the characters and the crash-bang-wallop of the thrills. If you've got a blu-ray player and a big screen it's well worth a go - you might be surprised at how much you enjoy it!
