JavaScript & jQuery: The Missing Manual
JavaScript & jQuery: The Missing Manual
by David Sawyer McFarland
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a Missing Manual - they're always good, 9 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Like the CSS Missing Manual I also own, this book gives clearly written and easily found instruction on the subject of JavaScript and JQuery. I think the Missing Manual series is probably the best series of programming manuals about. I've put this down to 4 stars as I don't use it quite as much as the CSS volume - preferring online sources in the first instance. But I'll go straight the CSS every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive reference., 9 April 2014

Invaluable volume, I have used it almost constantly as a source of reference since purchasing it. Covers every type of landing craft and ship used by the Allies during WW2. Many of these types later saw service in Vietnam - which is my primary area of interest.

This album is constantly on my playlist. I have bought 2 other albums on the strength of the artists on here. Circles - The Compass and The Algorithm - Polymorphic Code.
Great sampler of what Basick records are all about - great music, great bands!

Waterborne Warriors: U.S. Army Riverine Craft in Vietnam: Volume 1
Waterborne Warriors: U.S. Army Riverine Craft in Vietnam: Volume 1
by John M. Carrico
Edition: Paperback
Price: £19.43

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow. He has done it again. Amazing detail., 9 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the second book by John M. Carrico I have bought and once again he has delivered quality and information well above the usual level of detail. This volume covers some of the more unusual craft - air cushion vehicles, swamp boats, patrol boats used during the US involvement in the Vietnam War. This title doesn't cover the armoured boats of the Mobile River Force - that is covered in the excellent "Vietnam Ironclads". Like the earlier volume this is packed with great photos and info of great interest and use to the modeller, wargamer or just anyone with an in-depth interest in America's riverine war in Vietnam.
Again, like Vietnam Ironclads, the emphasis is on photos here - so there is less text, but what is there is informative, to the point and well written and researched. I consider myself well informed on this subject, but John has found and included some boats I was unaware of in this theatre.
I eagerly await his next publication - on artillery in the riverine war.

1946-1956 Les Navires français en Indochine : En images
by Jean Moulin
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I expected, 31 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I thought this was more a narrative history. It covers each class of ship and boat used by the French during their conflict in Indochina (Vietnam). Each boat or ship has a photo and either a spread or page. Technical specs, dates of service and a small description/potted history.

By Sea, Air, and Land: An Illustrated History of the U.S. Navy and the War in Southeast Asia
By Sea, Air, and Land: An Illustrated History of the U.S. Navy and the War in Southeast Asia
by Edward J. Marolda
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Great overview of the US Navy in Vietnam, 31 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This covers all areas of the Navy involvement in Vietnam. I'm mostly interested in the Riverine war, and it is covered in some detail. Also covers the big ships, aircraft, seebees and all areas of involvement. It is arranged chronologically, not by subject.

I bought this for wargaming models. Perfect for making thatched roof for Vietnamese hootches. Complement my Gomi Designs riverine craft for perfect Mekong Delta scenery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, 23 Mar. 2013
Excellent coverage and year by year analysis of the Rolling Thunder campaign during the Vietnam war. A mix of operational and political issues are covered. The multiple appendices are in themselves a real resource. I have nearly finished this and plan to follow it with the author's "The Linebacker Raids" covering the later bombing campaign under Nixon.

Nativity in Black Vol.2: a Tribute to Black Sabbath
Nativity in Black Vol.2: a Tribute to Black Sabbath

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 27 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Following on from the original Nativity in Black covers album, this gives more of the same. I think these are tighter and nicer covers generally. If you are going to cover a track, I personally, don't see the point of making it the same as the origianl. I even liked the Busta Rhymes 'cover'/reinvention of Iron Man....

Vietnam Ironclads
Vietnam Ironclads
by John M. Carrico
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally astounding level of detail, 15 July 2009
This review is from: Vietnam Ironclads (Paperback)
As a modeller of Vietnam Riverine Craft I picked up this title to add to my collection of reference on this period. I must say this title is a clear head and shoulders above any other reference work on this subject.
The text gives a brief overview of the history and development of the Brown Water Navy in Vietnam with some historical precedents ie American Civil War. The book then launches into a review of the four major types of craft used by the Mobile Riverine Force. The ATC Armoured Troop Carrier, Monitor, Command Control Boat and ASBP - Assault Support Patrol Boat. It also covers the variants such as the Flame and Water Cannon Monitors, Minesweepers and Refuellers.
This book is totally loaded with excellent photographs of exterior and interior details, and is full of very valuable information for the modeller or historian. The emphasis is on photographs, but that should not take away from the text which is very informed and it is clear the author has taken much time and effort to get otherwise unavailable sources - from the crew who served on these boats and government sources too.
