5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant, 1 Feb. 2010
Fantastic book full of creativity and ideas for abstract painting. I also recommend getting Rolina's other book, together they are a perfect combination.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not What I was Hoping For, 8 Jan. 2010
This book wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting something full of "how to do" examples as I would have expected an "Esssential Reference" to be....but it wasn't. Sure, there was good information to be found in it but as a new painter, it lacked enough "how to do" examples. It had plenty of pictures showing people painting this and that but not enough guides on how they achieved their effects etc. For me it wasn't complete and comprehensive enough to be an "Essential Reference", so my copy went back I'm afraid. I prefer "Quick & Clever Acrylics" by Michael Sanders, but I guess it depends what you are looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars superb for beginners, 24 Dec. 2009
I am knew to acrylic painting and this book provided a really good starting point. Giving lots of tips on how to do things and explaining key techniques like how to make an object you paint 3d instead of flat (and boring!). The author also covers information on how to paint lots of different objects you might like to have a go at such as trees, buildings, boats, skies, people animals fruit and flowers. This book inspired me to have a go and the only thing would improve it is a picture of the brushes she recommends as I wasn't exactly sure what she was referring to. But overall a fiver well spent I say
