5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent acting, slick production and great old story, 3 Dec 2000

Despite being a bit of an old cynic I found this version of Dickens' classic tale really very moving. It sometimes teeters on the edge but never quite becomes mawkish. The acting is first class from all the cast. I have never really cared for Richard E.Grant but I have to say that he's really impressive in this as Bob Cratchit- I don't remember the last time I saw him ACT. He's really rather good at it and should do it more often. Patrick Stewart is very classy as you would expect. I really can't recommend this video enough. I think that Dickens would have been pleased- which is the best you can say really!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor indeed!, 19 Nov 2000
Spirit Folk has got to be one of the worst Star Trek episodes ever. A bunch of stereotypical Irish people and a number of seriously maukish Janeway 'love' scenes make this seriously hard to watch. Ashes to Ashes is only a little better, with the outcome obvious to anyone within minutes of the episode begining. Season 6 of Voyager is proving to be the worst so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revealing portrait of the greatest swashbuckler, 23 July 2000

This review is from: Errol Flynn: A Memoir (Paperback)
This is a fantastic book. Conrad worked with Flynn on his autobiography which was completed just before Flynn's death in 1959. The book deals with the last year or so of Flynn's life when drugs and alcoholism had taken their toll on the star. Conrad presents a moving and intimate study of the enigmatic Flynn. This is the only book on Flynn that really comes close to scratching the surface and revealing the real man.

Richard I (Yale English Monarchs Series)
by John Gillingham

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, setting the record straight on Richard I, 22 July 2000
Updating and expanding upon Gillingham's previous biography on Richard, this is a superb biography. Gillingham fully explains the political and social back-drop to Richard's many achievements and thereby dispells the Victorian myth of 'Richard the bad king'. I can't recommend this book highly enough.
