Little Miss Geek - A Great Place to Start, 18 Oct. 2012
Belinda Parmar's book addresses some extremely important issues in the tech industry. Why is the industry only 17% women when 80% of all tech purchases are influenced by women? How can we change preconceptions of tech `geeks' to attract women into the industry?
Belinda raises many questions, suggesting practical solutions for bridging this gender gap between girls and technology. Perhaps the most practical place to start is in schools with a complete rebrand of the tech industry's image. From here the doors will open for girls to get involved in all levels of technology development, production and marketing, changing the way they are spoken to.
Technology continues to develop and influence our daily lives, so unless something is done now this rapidly developing industry will leave females behind. Belinda has made the first major strides in a shift of attitude and has done so very effectively. The issues seem so obvious once laid out in front of you and the solutions seem very attainable by the end of the book.
The countless visual aids and short, digestible chapters are full of facts and figures that make it a real pleasure to read!
