5.0 out of 5 stars Still very much worth reading, 28 Sept. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Rather dated now but still very much worth reading. A complete absence of psychobabble- Storr is crisp, clear and to the point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential research reading, 20 July 2009
Essential reading for all counsellors/psychotherapists - irrespective of experience or orientation - just to have your assumptions and prejudices busted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific companion for walkers, 29 April 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This piece of electronics wizardry has got me out of a few fixes whilst walking. Would feel lost without it! The Topo maps are admittedly not up to Ordnance Survey standard but adequate enough.

The Talking Cure: The Science Behind Psychotherapy
The Talking Cure: The Science Behind Psychotherapy
by Susan C. Vaughan
Edition: Hardcover

1.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight, 1 April 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
With the word "Psychotherapy" in its title - it is without doubt a lightweight on the subject and adds nothing to the understanding of the practice of therapy. The case studies contribute next to nothing in support of the main contention that psychotherapy alters the brain. This latter point could be the book's saving grace but Vaughan's approach is less than satisfactory. She relates a lot of scientific research on the brain/nervous system (also of sea-slugs) but if the reader wants to look at the original research pertaining to specific points she refers to then forget it. All she gives is a list of books for each chapter. The take-home message of the book? - (successful) psychotherapy alters the brain. Full stop.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ghastly thing, 23 Mar. 2009

Looks OK in the picture. When I unwrapped it - it had very sharp edges and the base didn't quite coincide with the top. I had to get a file to file down the sharp and ill-fitting edges. A real piece of chunky junk.

Using CBT in General Practice: The 10 Minute Consultation
Using CBT in General Practice: The 10 Minute Consultation

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, concise and practical, 22 Mar. 2009
I've looked at (and purchased) many CBT books but none match the practical approach as this one does. It sets out the theory clearly and concisely and gives lots of examples of how CBT may be employed. Despite the "General Practice" bit in the title - the book would suit a counsellor/therapist.

Trigonometry (Teach Yourself: Math & Science)
Trigonometry (Teach Yourself: Math & Science)
by Teach Yourself
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little book, 16 Mar. 2009
Provides a clear no-nonsense, no-muddling introduction to trignometry. I would say this book will set you up satisfactorily for higher study of the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harrowing, 23 Jan. 2009
This is a harrowing book. The description of the destruction of one German city after another is relentless. Putting the rights or wrongs aside - the British and Americans succeeded in destroying the heart of European culture. Thousands of beautiful Roman, Medieval, and Baroque buildings were destroyed by incendiary bombs - not to speak of the tens of thousands of helpless old German men, women and children burned to death or asphyxiated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, 22 Jan. 2009
This is an excellent book for those who want to resurrect their algebra or as a revision book for those who are currently studying maths but find it a struggle. If you have a natural flair for maths then perhaps this is not for you. It spells out each step in a calculation which is often not found in books for the highly numerate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, 27 Nov. 2008
This book is A level standard and beyond - not for beginners. It approaches grammar in a new way providing short passages in German each of which illustrates a point of grammar. Lots of detail in each chapter despite its slender width, and plenty of exercises at the end with answers!).
