This is especially a Christmas read and has a real sense of the Dales. I am about to explore other titles by this author and hope they will also entertain me as much. I have sent my copy on to Australia!

Having heard this piece at a live concert, I wanted to hear it again and now throughly enjoy putting it on- quite often. It was a piece I had never heard of before so was delighted to find it at Amazon.

I particularly like the first track.

This is an excellent book giving a picture of Vera Brittain's times. Her time at Oxford just after WW1 is especially evocative.

This was a second copy of the book I have bought as a present as the recipient was so enjoying looking at mine. A very useful book. A bit heavy to walk around with so has to be read beforehand.

I felt I was sitting with Vera Brittain as she wrote her masterpiece 'Testament of Youth' as well as appreciating her deep friendship with Winifred Holtby. I enjoyed their struggles to getting started with their chosen career of being novelists.

4.0 out of 5 stars The feel of modern Botswana, 9 Aug 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Place of Reeds (Paperback)
This book was recommended to me.I have an interest in Botswana having visited there about the time the book starts. The book gives a strong feel for the country- particularly Maun- and some of its problems. The difficulties of inter cultural marriages are also faced by the author. The shocking rape is dealt with in as matter of fact way possible for a victim.Well worth reading.
