4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money, 22 Jun. 2007
I purchased the Sony DAVDZ410 a few months ago and am very impressed.

Setting up the system is a doddle with the colour coded connections at the rear of the dvd player for the speakers.

Sony has come up with a quick set up using a plug in microphone. You plug it into the front of the DVD player and put the mike where you head would be when your sat watching TV. you then command the system to set up the speakers automatically and they calculate the distance and decibels according to your position. Very neat!!

The sound is great producing excellent speech from the front speaker and superb dolby digital surround from the front and rear speakers.

The bass does its job although I think it could be a bit more "rumbly"

The system looks fab with its black and silver design, the picture produced by the player is sharp and clear with no loss of sync between the film and sound although you can adjust this in the menu.

The set up menu is clear and easy to use and you can adjust everything manually to suit you. I found turning up the decibel levels on the speakers was useful as the auto set up seems to keep the levels down a bit. Not suprised really as this is a powerful system

All in all then, a good middle of the range system more than adequate for the average movie goer. I would have liked wireless rear speakers though but these only come with the top of the range model.

A great system with a punchy sound and crisp picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally brilliant and inspiring!!, 29 Jan. 2007
This review is from: Champions [DVD][1984] (DVD)
The true story of Bob Champion who beat cancer to win the Grand National on Aldaniti.

I have seen this film many times and am glad it is finally on DVD.

Forget having to like horses etc, this is a heart warming film about a man and a horse who simply would not give up.

My dad died from cancer, I went through it with him, and know what Bob Champion must have gone through.

The race is very well filmed and boy oh boy can that horse jump!!

Keep the tissues handy because you WILL end up sobbing.

Buy it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!, 24 Nov. 2006
A must watch at Christmas. Just as funny after 5 or 10 times of seeing it.

If you want a real laugh on Christmas day afternoon, put this on.

The only gripe I have is that Belle's song is missing from the DVD. A real disappointment ;( My daughter was gutted when we put it on as it's one of the best songs in the film!!

All in all a great comedy musical for all the family. Get the VHS version for the complete version which includes Belle's song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turkish airlines dc10 crash, 1 Mar. 2006
A very informative and factual account of the turkish airlines dc10 disaster just outside Paris in March 1974.
The author goes into great detail about the accident and other events surrounding it.
Worth buying if you are interested in this kind of subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic sex comedy, 30 Nov. 2005
This review is from: 10 [DVD] [1979] (DVD)
Dudley moore is his usual funny self in this comedy about a songwriter / musician who is facing a mid life crisis.
Memorable moments include the telescope on his patio when it hits him and he falls down the bank. Seeing him try to get up again is a real belly laugh. Also Bo Derek in her classic scene running along the beach in slo mo. Dudley burning his feet on the sand is brilliant.
A haunting tune played by dudley in the bar "It's easy to say" is a superb piece of music brilliantly played by Moore.
I searched high and low for this piece of music and eventually found it in a Henry Mancini song book.
It's a fantastic piece to play on the piano.
All in all if you want to put your feet up on a wet sunday afternoon and have a laugh, get this and watch it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A remarkable feat of courage and flying, 18 Nov. 2005
This review is from: Freefall - Flight 174 [DVD] (DVD)
The true story of an Air Canada Boeing 767 which ran out of fuel at cruising height, and how the skill of the Captain glided it down to a perfect touchdown at a disused airfield called Gimley.
I have read the book and the movie is quite accurate to the real life events although the flight number 174 was not the real one. The Captain and co-pilots name in the movie are the real names of the flight crew. Captain Bob Pearson and First Officer Maurice Quintal.
A truly remarkable feat of flying and airmanship.
An entertaining movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars the greatest martial arts epic ever filmed, 20 May 2001
Having seen this movie countless times on tv and video, the transfer to dvd is superb. Great stereo sound and a sharp clear picture. The only thing that lets this film down is the bad dubbing and the censoring of the famous nanchuck scene in the cavern which is very disappointing. Also a scene at the beginning has been cut along with a few frames at the end of the scene where Bolo kills the guards. All in all Bruce Lee remains the undisputed king of kung fu. If you have never seen this movie, get it now
