This app is good when working as it should. But, it crashes too often; can the developers remedy this defect please?

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary Powerful Story, 25 Sep 2013

This review is from: Proxima (Kindle Edition)
I was overwhelmed by the power and scope of this work. The lives of people who are 'transported' to an extrasolar planet, who then have to live with minimal resources, are contrasted with the lives of people living ultrasophisticated and highly technological lives in the Solar System of the future. The discovery of an alien device adds an extra dimension to the story. However, rivalry between two power blocks leads to a war that has devastating consequences for the Solar System. Presumably, the human race can continue to survive through the inhabitants of the new planet and through any survivors on any vessel that escaped from the Solar System.

I would recommend this book to Baxter fans and SF buffs generally.

One of the best apps I've ever bought. It has solved all my list problems; no more bits of paper all over the place; all lists are in one place; colourful too - choose a colour for any list. Also, nice checking off feature. Other features: text option, calender, and archive. I have no regrets about buying this app.

I agree with other reviewers: this app does not work; it stops before it loads. I find this very unsatisfactory and disappointing.

Yes, a really great app. Nice big figures with choice of background, and choice of simple or scientific mode - change by tipping device on side.

Sleeping Dogs: A true story of the Lindbergh baby kidnapping

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Intriguing Piece, 20 July 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very intriguing item outlining the story of the Lindbergh baby kidnapping from a point of view that suggests Hauptmann's innocence, based on a deathbed confession. I found this piece very difficult to put down once I started reading it. However, I must make two negative points. The default font is too small - when I chose a larger font, it was too large - there seemed to be no happy medium. Also, there were no pictures. Why? Other Kindle products provide pictures, why not this one? But, on the whole I found this a very intriguing read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting Depiction of Criminal Life - a Superior British Noir, 14 Dec 2011
I saw this film many years ago, on its release. I found it a very haunting work; a chilling depiction of prison life. The film's hard edge is enhanced by the black and white photography and its setting in winter - the snow scenes at the end augment this effect. I feel that if the story was set in the United States it would be classed as a classic film noir, especially if filmed in the 1940s. In the same period it might also have been be classed as one of the works of the British 'Golden Age' of film. On the other hand it was released in the 'New Wave' of British film - the late 50s to early 60s. In view of this I am puzzled as to why this work is not better known and not often shown. There are many positive reviews of this work on this site and I would like to add to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed by this Version of Brighton Rock (1947), 7 Dec 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was very impressed by the Blu-Ray version of this classic noir from the late 1940s (sometimes referred to as 'the Golden Age of British cinema'). Picture quality is high where, at some points, there is even a 3D look to the image; sound quality is also good. A suoerior version of this well known classic work.
