1.0 out of 5 stars It could have been good, but ..., 31 Oct. 2011
Where to begin ... firstly I am annoyed that a double CD version of this came out straight after the initial release, another annoying record company ploy to make us part with more cash. Secondly the production is appalling, this is yet another victim of the loudness war (see [...] This may sound alright on your car stereo or crappy ear buds but on a decent hi-fi it's effectively unlistenable. The songs themselves are OK, but it's a very average set for this great band, very JA Lite, apart from a couple of outstanding tracks. Unfortunately I won't be listening to them again unless this album is remastered PROPERLY in the future. It's about time the public started mailing these badly produced discs back to the record company and demanding our money back. What a waste of a bands talent and time to have it trashed by a mastering engineer with the hearing of a ninety year old donkey. Garbage, basically this is an expensive coaster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this masterpiece now!, 7 Sept. 2009
This review is from: Dropped (Audio CD)
I can only echo the sentiments of other reviewers here. This album has depth, groove and vibe a mile wide, a forgotton masterpiece of the 90's which sounds as fresh today as it ever did, in fact it gets better with time. Terry Date's production is fantastic (responsible for Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger as well). I have two copies of this on CD and two copies on double vinyl.... yes, it's THAT good! Do your ears a favour and add this classic psychedelic doomy grunge masterpiece to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album, great artist, 2 Sept. 2009
Excellent blues album with some standout tracks and solid throughout. Frank is an excellent songwriter and guitarist, a true seasoned musician who has written for other famous artists. I picked up this album after seeing them live last night. Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good..... but, 16 Jan. 2009
This a good performance from Pallas on the tour with Uriah Heep. I saw them in Sheffield on this tour and was really impressed with the performance and the new vocalist. The set list was different that night and included Cut And Run which is unfortunately not played here. There is more material from the Knightmoves Ep and The Wedge which has not aged so well. The performance on this disc is pretty good but the vocals are sub-par at times, not helped by the raw unbalanced recording. A nice nostaligic look back at an interesting band, but if you are investigating Pallas start with the excellent The Sentinel album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Debut, 16 Jan. 2009
This review is from: Wishbone Ash (Audio CD)
This is probably my favourite Wishbone Ash LP. The opening twin guitar salvo and boogie of Blind Eye set the tone very well and the final track, Phoenix, is a stunning closer with well executed changes of pace and feel with the twin guitars burning brightly at the close. There are no weak tracks on the album and in my opinion it is even better than the more often talked about Argus LP. Just buy it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good music.... but, 16 Jan. 2009
This review is from: Carry On (Audio CD)
The music contained on this CD is generally good, some of the tracks are stunningly good (No Such Thing, Killing Birds, You Know My Name), others very average, Billie Jean is ruined by an awful guitar solo and complete lack of dynamic range (see mastering comments). The biggest problem here is the mastering. The mix is OK but the mastering appears to have been done by someone with no ears. Appallingly bad and basically unlistenable other than on an mp3 player. Another casualty of the loudness war.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cracking album!, 9 Jan. 2009
This review is from: United Abominations (Audio CD)
Easily one of Megadeth's best albums. The album is consistently good from start to finish. The angry yet measured attack of 'Sleepwalker' is truly one of their finest moments and 'You're Dead' is a piledriver of a track. There is everything here from dark crunchy rhythmic attacks, Iron Maiden style twin guitar melodics and precision power metal. For me the album loses one star for the remake of 'A Tout Le Monde' which, in my opinion, doesn't work as a duet and sits uncomfortably amidst the new material. But don't let that criticism put you off, this is a superb album, just buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Anarchy denied!, 9 Jan. 2009
This album has benefited from the remaster and it was good to go back and listen to this again, I remembered it as a slightly disjointed and angry effort and the memory was true. Anarchy In The UK is a poor cover but apart that the album is solid and angry..... turn up 'Liar' and scare the neighbours, worth having for that track alone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where was the editor?, 4 Jan. 2009
This review is from: Jimmy Page (Hardcover)
I bought this book on the strength of the other reviews here but I have to say I thought this book was very poor. There was nothing much new here and the author spends most of his time fawning over JP's playing techniques and failed to paint a realistic picture of the man himself. The author's use of punctuation is incredibly poor and the editor should be shot! I don't think anyone proof read any of this book as the text is full of glaring errors, repeated words, dead end sentences, superfluous information and poor punctuation. For completists only, but don't expect a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Value Monitor!, 13 Jan. 2005
I bought this monitor to add to my home studio as a second monitor in tandem with my existing 17" TFT. It is brilliant for the money, so good in fact that I have ordered another to replace my other existing monitor. Can't wait.
