5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant on all levels. Well done Brent Weeks, 29 Aug. 2014

I am heart broken. The next book could take a few years to come out. I'm genuinely disturbed and depressed it will be long before I can read the next book. This book is well and truly brilliant. It takes the story to a different level. Characters you hate and love equally. You laugh and smile and feel their sadness and everything in between. The action is relentless in the end and you must believe there will be a lot of Gavin Guile in the next book because he was quite sidelined in this one in my opinion. But it doesn't take away the beauty of what happened here.

Brent weeks is a brilliant story teller. He weaves the colours of the spectrum in his book (pun intended), and makes you beg for more. There is so much at stake in the end and so much untold that you have to keep yourself from jumping the pages to try to find out what is happening later on. And worse off is that the next book isn't here yet.

A must read for any lover of epic fantasy. Because this is truly epic.

Scott Lynch is an extremely intelligent author. Humour, plot, depraved morality, all these bundled together in a twister of events, like a very exciting and challenging game of chess. You have to read the series to appreciate what these characters are really like, how they developed into their current state, and why you will love them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Words won't do it justice, 10 May 2014

You have to read this series to understand the brilliance of the author. He has somehow created and developed a character that has no boundaries in morality that could make you cringe, clap with enthusiasm, or downright hate. However, there is no way you don't want to eat through it with fervor because it is that well written. I salute the author on being very brave in the way he created a character that could defy all morality, yet you sympathise with and practically cheer on throughout the series. Brilliant

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant, 10 May 2014

This series is proving to be extremely engrossing. The book is an absolute page turner, I had it finished in one day, literally unable to put it down. The main characters are well written, the violence is just about right, and the author keeps you interested at every page. Even the secondary characters have a developing back story which you can anticipate will bring a new dimension to the plot in the next book. Thoroughly recommended

The author has a fascinating talent at making it all look like a well constructed play. His writing is excellent, and the story itself does not disappoint. Love it, and the beautiful writing

Another excellent addition to the series. Very intelligent way of bringing the threads of the stories together without repeating things and keeping you fully engaged. It takes a very intelligent writer to do that. As for the ending...you'll be left gobsmacked

Main character is absolutely brilliant. This needs the second part soon. Brilliant piece of work. The magic is new, well constructed, but still has a lot of space for exploration. Recommended to all readers of gritty fantasy

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular, 18 April 2013

Just finished reading this book. Very very very good story. Just enough intrigue to keep you going without spoiling the mysteries or making anything obvious. Main characters are brilliant, and you can tell there are a lot of back stories still to be told. The ending was brilliant and gripping. Absolutely loved it. Can't wait for the next installments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absorbing, interesting, very well written, 19 Mar. 2013

This book is seriously good. Although the characters aren't new, the way Cameron brings them to light in the story is brilliant. The brutality is great, not over the top, and well depicted. The general narrative seems odd with the jumping between characters, especially at the beginning of the book. But once you know them , it is almost seamless and flowing beautifully. The interesting thing is that although this is a tome of a book, there are huge back stories waiting to be revealed which have massive potential.
Overall, great book to read. Highly recommended.
