4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Blues, 9 Feb. 2015
This review is from: The Blues Came Callin' (Audio CD)
Walter at his best with cameo from John Mayall on 'Mayall's Piano Boogie' and 'The Blues came callin' but for me the best track on this CD has to be 'Nobody moves me like you do' a seven minute plus sublime track by Walter and the band at their best.

My Cd also had a documentary included with it which was very interesting and the sleeve notes and art work were also excellent. What more could you want? Near perfection in blues!

An excellent first book of the series, one of the top crime / thrillers to be published for a long time

4.0 out of 5 stars Early Tull, 21 Jan. 2015
This review is from: This Was: Remastered (Audio CD)
Excellent remastered pair of CD's, demonstrating the foresight of this band. They must have had a good idea that they were going to progress from this blues / rock influenced part of their evolution to have used 'This Was ...' as the title. There is though elements of what we would expect from Tull over the years and this sounds as good as it did when these tracks were first released.

Interesting sleeve notes included which is always a bonus!

Antibiotics - Are They Curing Us or Killing Us?: The Catastrophic Impact of the Over-prescription of Antibiotics on Our Health
Antibiotics - Are They Curing Us or Killing Us?: The Catastrophic Impact of the Over-prescription of Antibiotics on Our Health
Price: £3.59

3.0 out of 5 stars Confusion will be our Epitaph, 21 Jan. 2015
I think that this book should be considered under the popular science genre rather than 'Health', there are some interesting points made but some of what is being advocated is not fully supported / evidenced. There is much confusion over the use of high dose vitamin C in the treatment and prevention of both bacterial and viral infections for example. The book though makes a number of suggestions for future research projects based upon its findings which would seem sensible. As in other books of this type it identifies the problems with the relationship of medicine with the pharmaceutical industry being fundamental along with agriculture for the rise of the superbug.

Its well written, easily understood, with a few case studies, from the author to illustrate some of the problems the author sees besetting our future if the antibiotic issue is not addressed. There is also a lot of discussion about the use of 'natural' remedies including pro and pre-biotics to prevent infections and protect our natural defences. There is some food for thought here but it leaves you asking the fundamental question 'where is the evidence?'.

I bought a XL, which was quite generous in size not a bad thing though. It is a good quality, packs quite small so ideal for taking on holiday. A useful addition, recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now and Them, 13 Jan. 2015

This is a seminal piece of work that sound as good today on CD as it did many years ago. It contains some of the key works by this band that contributed to the development of Van the man before he went across the pond. It invokes memories of Rory Gallagher and Horslips as they both contributes to the Irish scene which was thriving at this time.

The tracks are as good today as they were when originally were released in the sixties a fine album.

Excellent little ramekins, they arrived on time and were packed well enough to withstand most natural disasters. Good value for money and now I can put the new blow torch to good use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality Acoustic Blues, 7 Jan. 2015
This review is from: You Took The Blues (Audio CD)
This is a very good piece of work, there are ten excellent tracks all written by Kit. The music is slow, lazy with a clear acoustic guitar. All the tracks ooze with emotion and the tragedy associated with the blues. Kit has a vocal that can only be described at striking, haunting with a slightly echoing quality ideal for this acoustic melodic sound.

There is though, as is now seems to be the way, very limited information with the CD but a little research reveals that Kit is from Yorkshire and is a composer guitar player who can turn her hand to Jazz and Flamenco. The final two track are instrumental blues numbers. This work is recommended and as an artist requires further investigation.

Good value for money, a little more complicated that I remembered though. This game went down well with the young adults as well as the older generation. A good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Yes Man's Christmas?, 22 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I like this CD, I think that Run with the Fox should have been a Christmas hit and we ought to set out to make it so! This disc demonstrates the musicianship of Chris Squire. It combines choral singing, traditional Christmas music with some excellent bass playing. Its slightly tongue in cheek but what the heck there are far worse around out there.
