5.0 out of 5 stars A modern gothic horror classic, 28 Nov. 2014

Steeped in back story, this feels very real, and whilst the detail is a little thick, it pays off in the final third where the references make the horror feel personal. A real page turner.

4.0 out of 5 stars A THRILLING END, 8 Oct. 2014

A thrilling end to a disturbing tale of murder & parenthood. 20% could have been shaved off to make it better paced, the good bits were great, the extra bits were slow, but mostly enjoyable

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, 9 Feb. 2014

Nostalgic, emotionally charged, self scrutinizing. I only wanted more, particularly of the deliciously dangerous Ursula. Tell us more of this world Neil x

I've never read a book as forensic about long term relationships. It felt very real. Exquisite attention to detail. I'm totally sold. So convincing, there must be some degree of personal feeling here...?

This was everything it should be, and more. King is imprinted all over this, particularly his relationship with alcoholism.
Thrilling and fast paced. And very moving. The talk of family, father figures & hospice work is extremely sensitive, honest & respectful; beautifully done.
I've waited YEARS to read this book.. now I will miss it... make it a trilogy please King-!!

Utterly convincing. Characters are whole, emotions real & the dialogue almost audible.
I felt every emotion. The last 20% was a rollercoaster, my adrenaline was fierce.
So so real, thank you for your honesty & courage to portray real people & emotions.

Mockingjay (Hunger Games Trilogy)
Mockingjay (Hunger Games Trilogy)

5.0 out of 5 stars The best series I've ever read, 25 July 2013
This book earned "The Hunger Games" a place above Potter.
Succinct, brave, morally complex, believable with comparisons to today - Collins is not afraid of the harsh reality of politics, love & war.
No one wins in war, history repeats itself - this is the author's triumph. The psychology of her characters deserves wide recognition, haunting, sad & utterly revealing.
Thank you Suzanne Collins, your sentiment was not to take the easy way out but to take the honest way out & do it right. Perfection. I hope Hollywood has your same strength & bravery when they set this to screen.
Xxx

Catching Fire
Catching Fire

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book since Harry Potter, 12 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Catching Fire (Kindle Edition)
Not only is this a perfectly plotted novel, the craft of the writer means that the story flows with expert ease. The characters are this books biggest triumph, fully rounded and utterly believable, eclipsing Harry Potter in this respect.
One of the best books I've ever read. This is no fluke - the author is a master at her craft and at giving the audience what they want.
