Any new album by a major artist is going to be received with a certain amount of trepidation, and with obvious comparisons to previous work. My wife and I are both long-standing Robbie fans and his shows are some of the best we've ever seen. I bought this for my wife's birthday and we initially listened to it during a car journey, which probably gave us the wrong first impression of it, and we felt a bit disappointed after this first listen. After a couple of plays at home however, the album has grown on us, despite a couple of tracks that do - I have to say - let it down: namely .... On The Radio and Wow Wow Yeah Yeah, but an album is always going to have a few tracks on it that you don't like so much.

However, everything changed when we saw Robbie's live concert from the O2 on Sky. New tracks that sounded a little 'synthesised' on the album came alive when played live by Robbie's superb band, and gained that 'rawness' that a studio recording can sometimes lack. It's the old vinyl versus CD, digital versus film argument - a live performance will always have more 'soul' and live instruments will always be better than their artificial counterparts. The duet he does as the last track on the album with Lissie was absolutely superb live, reminding me very much of Alison Krauss and Robert Plant's 'Please Read The Letter' from 'Raising Sand.'

Give this album a chance; I promise it will grow on you. Now for the concert at the Etihad next year!

For those of us struggling in full-time jobs, desperate to leave the world of the working wounded to pursue our dreams of becoming writers, this book is a breath of fresh air. I read a few pages this morning before beginning another soul-destroying day in local government, and I already feel positive about achieving my dream of writing full-time. Simon's enthusiasm and positivity shines through and banishes those doubts we all have - not to mention the little negative 'voice' that creeps in every now and then. The message is: if you want to be a writer, you can be, but only you can make it happen. With this book to help you, you're one step nearer that dream. Go for it - today!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic, 2 Feb 2012

Having still got the original cassette tape version of this classic album from when it was first released, I'd long been meaning to get a CD of it. At £3.99 on Amazon, it was hardly breaking the bank, so I bought a copy. What a joy it was to hear these fabulous tunes - and brilliant songwriting - again. I'm going to wear the CD out if I keep playing it as much as I am!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money?, 1 Feb 2012
When this collection first came out, I wondered if it really was worth the rather high price it was being sold at. After being lucky enough to receive this for my birthday, I can honestly say that it is, and am glad I have it in my collection. The presentation of the CDs and DVDs is excellent, and I love the way the designers have used Bruce's original notebook and presented it in a sturdy slip case. There are also some superb black and white photographs and plenty of reading into the background of the album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Memories, 23 Nov 2011

Like the last reviewer; I agree this was a great year for music, and this CD brought back quite a few memories of '76. That long, hot summer seemed to bring out a whole string of wonderful 'summery' songs that would make a fantastic CD in their own right. In fact, if I had the means, I would pay someone to bring out a 'Summer of '76' CD. They'd have to make sure it included 'Let Your Love Flow' by the Bellamy Brothers though!

Linda McCartney: Life in Photographs
Linda McCartney: Life in Photographs

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book., 23 Nov 2011
I have always loved Linda's photographs, from as far back as the 1980s when she shot some images for CPRE's 'Tomorrow' exhibition in London. Her beautiful black and white landscapes had a dreamy, very calming feel to them; simple, but at the same time inviting you to just look at them and soak up the atmosphere. It was only later that I became aware of her other work from the 1960s, and I've been a fan ever since. In this digital age, her photographs seem to hark back to a simpler time, when photographers used their years of skill and judgement to create long-lasting images. This book is a fine blend of all Linda's different subjects: people, rock stars, family shots, landscapes and still-life, and is one to linger over. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Barnstormer, 31 Jan 2009
This review is from: Working On a Dream (Audio CD)
Ignore all the other negative reviews on this album - it's terrific. 'Outlaw Pete' the opening song, is a sweeping epic of a song with a real feel of the Old West to it. The next track, 'My Lucky Day' is a foot-tapping powerhouse of a track. It's the sort of track that makes you wish you were up there with Bruce and the band, playing along on your Telecaster. I will be playing this CD until it's worn out!
