Where the Truth Lies
Where the Truth Lies
Price: £5.49

1.0 out of 5 stars A very disappointing read, 28 Oct 2013
I have to say I am surprised by the number of 5 star reviews for where the truth lies I thought it was a below average read. I would hardly call it a thriller the story was slow and as others have mentioned most of the scenes are set in the home. Also there are characters in the story that do not really need to be there eg the teacher and also the main characters sister, they just help to pad out a lack lustre "thriller". The plot line had all the makings of a good story but characters that were poorly portrayed, unbelievable plot lines made this book hard going. I find it hard to believe where the truth lies received so many positive reviews I love a good thriller but feel this book does not fit into this genre. At one point I nearly gave up on it, but persevered thinking it may gain momentum unfortunately it never did! A very disappointing " overhyped" read for me I'm afraid.

3.0 out of 5 stars Felt to rushed, 20 Oct 2013
This review is from: The Arsonist (Paperback)
I have read a few of Mary Burton's books and have to say I was disappointed with this one. The story is based around Nero who is an arsonist he has already killed and is about to start up his crimes again after a break. Investigator Gannon is determined to catch him this time and gets help from local reporter Darcy, soon Darcy's life is in danger and time is running out, can he be caught before he kills more people? The story started off well and held potential but the then the story felt rushed and ended quickly without much of a build up along the way. I guessed the killer half way through the story and from that point the arsonist hardly builds momentum, it seems from mid point Mary burton lost interest in this book and wanted to finish it as quickly as she could. I enjoyed the relationship between Gannon and Darcy and felt this could have built up along with Darcy's relationship with her family. I gave this book 3 stars because it is a ok read just a shame it felt so rushed.

Item received quickly and well packaged. Item came in a black box so very masculine and as it was a gift for my husband spot on. The bracelet was well made with a very sturdy clasp and the personalised tag a lovely edition. If you want a special present for the man in your life who doesn't wear much jewellery. This is the perfect present bang on trend but very masculine. My husband loved it and wears it all the time

The Doll's House (Brennan and Esposito)
The Doll's House (Brennan and Esposito)
by Tania Carver
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Crime writing at its best, 26 Sep 2013

The dolls house is the latest book from Tania Carver ( the pseudonym for a husband and wife writing team). Don't be fooled by the innocent title as the book deals with the dark world of men who have very deviant personalities. The book opens with a murder in a unremarkable house but inside it's a different matter it appears to be a life size dolls house with a real life sized dead body posed as a doll. From the first page the book starts with a bang and continues to gain pace throughout. We meet DI Phil Brennan his wife Marina again who readers of previous books will already know. Both are dealing with issues we learnt about in past books, as well as dealing with new relationship problems. I won't give to much away as the relationship problems play an important part of the book. I though as this was the 5th book written by Tania Carver things may have slowed down but I was wrong, from the first page you will be gripped. Fast-paced and gruesome in parts this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. One small negative point I would like to make is I think it's time our 2 lead characters were given a break as they are always involved in the crimes on a personal level (how much bad luck can a couple have?) that's why I dropped a star. Perhaps Phil could just do his job from now on! Don't let this put you off as all in all A very gritty book that puts tania carver up there with some of the really good crime writers.

The Final Countdown (Holy Island Trilogy)
The Final Countdown (Holy Island Trilogy)

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW loved this book, 23 Sep 2013

The Final countdown is the last in the Holy Island trilogy, I was worried that Shelia Quigley would not be able to keep up the pace of the story, but boy was i wrong. The final countdown keeps you riveted from the first page as we catch up with characters from previous books. Shelia has managed to create characters the reader cares about Ian's you feel yourself "rooting" for them throughout I don't want to give to much away and spoil it for other readers but the final countdown answers all the questions to the previous 2 books and ties up loose ends in the process. The holy island trilogy was well thought out and does make you think about things that are going on in the world today and could there be more to it! Well written with great characters and a story that moves at breakneck speed, the final countdown is well worth a read. A word of warning though once I picked this book up I was unable to put it down and read it in just over a day. I for one am really looking forward to reading Sheila's next book, each book seems to be better than the last one if that is possible

5.0 out of 5 stars why give a low rating for your silly mistake????, 26 April 2013
I cannot understand why people are giving the trap one stars because they feel they have been conned, wake up and read the description, it clearly states ..............Product Description
Kimberley's original book THE TRAP has been serialized into 3 parts - this is PART 2 OF 3 with EXCLUSIVE NEW CONTENT. TRY THE HEIR TO MARTINA COLE FOR A SPECIAL PRICE, with a story of murder, the underworld, violence and treachery.

*This is not the sequel to The Trap. The sequel to The Trap will be called Payback and will be released early in 2014*

I think its harsh giving one star ratings for a book that is a fantastic read, and full of great characters, Kimberley Chambers is one of the best writers at there at the moment, and surely the whole point of reviews is to give your take on a book, not how much it cost etc. and how people have so say "been conned".......99p, the publishers are hardly going to make a fortune!!I cannot believe people think they should get their money back. After all they are the one's who never read the product description, to those people...... you bought it, get over it and move on!! and read what is one of the best books I have read this year

End Game (Breaking Away Series Book 3)
End Game (Breaking Away Series Book 3)
Price: £0.77

4.0 out of 5 stars great crime story, 1 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
End Games by Heather Atkinson's is the final instalment of a trilogy, make sure you read Breaking Away and Dead Eyed Dad first, not only are they worth a read if you enjoy a good crime story, but they also set the scene for the final instalment "End Games". Heather Atkinson has wrote a fast paced thriller, which you will keep you reading late into the night. Once again the story focuses on two main characters Annie and Laura, Annie's father and brother are both serial killers and Laura also has a couple of serial killers in her family. Annie and Laura find themselves embroiled in a fight for their life's, as new and old enemies come to finish what they started. Although this sounds far fetched Heather Atkinson manages to write a story that is believable, the story moves from one scenario to the next, at a fast pace, giving the reader little time to catch your breath. If you enjoy a good crime thriller, you will certainly enjoy this trilogy

Don't Let Me Go

5.0 out of 5 stars well worth a read, 22 Feb 2013
This review is from: Don't Let Me Go (Hardcover)
Don't let me go is the latest book by Susan Lewis, and one of her best yet. Don't let me go follows on from one of her previous books "no child of mine". Charlotte & Chloe have started a new life in New Zealand, with Charlottes new found family, life is perfect Chloe appears to be putting the terrible abuse she suffered at the hands of her father behind her, with the love and support of her new family. All this changes, when the truth of Chloe's abduction is passed onto the authorities. Charlotte and Chloe must suffer the consequences of Charlotte abducting Chloe and taking her to New Zealand. Justice must be served, despite Charlottes obvious love for Chloe, they are torn apart, by the British legal system and social services, and so begins the long fight to reunite a mother and daughter. I was so pleased when I realised Susan Lewis was going to write up a follow up to "no child of mine", and I was not disappointed "don't let me go", pulls you in from the first page full of compassion, intrigue and hope, you find yourself rooting for Charlotte and Chloe, as they fight the British Justice system and Social services. Susan appears to have done lots of research on this book and it shows in the writing, although this book deals with the harrowing subject of child abuse, this is in most part an uplifting read, although I do have to confess I had a couple of "tearful" moments! I would recommend reading "no child of mine" first. although not essential, it is well worth reading as it helps to set the scene for "don't let me go". Susan Lewis is a author who goes from strength to strength in my opinion and always writes difficult story lines with compassion and understanding.

This item was delivered quickly (within a couple of days of ordering), the item was well packaged with plenty of protection. I had been looking for some enamel canisters for a while, price wise they are good value for money, well made and a decent size, as they are square they are easy to wash and keep clean. The canisters have a retro look and feel to them. Well worth the money, and great service.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mandasue goes Broke!, 3 Feb 2013
This review is from: Broke (Hardcover)
Well Mandasue I have to say you did not disappoint with your new release Broke, a great read from the first page. Broke is gritty and true to real life, thing that happen to the main character Amy are believable, loan sharks, drugs, and abuse, just a few themes that run through this book. Although I did not particularly take to Amy, you could not help feeling some sympathy for her spiral into drugs and the abuse she suffers. Mandasue Heller certainly knows how to keep the reader engrossed in her books with characters you will love or despise, as well as keeping the story "real". I gave this book four stars only because this is not my favourite book of Mandasue Heller. On the other hand each book she writes goes from strength to strength, Mandasue is definitely one of my favourite author's. I would offer a word of advice to anyone just about to read Broke, clear your schedule as you wont want to be interrupted, once you start reading Broke that's for sure.
