4.0 out of 5 stars San Franciscan legends, 22 Nov. 2011
This review is from: Original Album Classics (Audio CD)
Early Jefferson Airplane is a treat. All this set needed was Volunteers for it to be essential, still it's a small quibble. The Airplane are blusier and rockier than the Dead, tighter in their live shows and in Grace Slick have a great voice (shame there's no DVD included but then you can't have everything).
The bonus tracks are OK but the key songs are all there.

5.0 out of 5 stars another side of prog, 22 Nov. 2011
Greenslade took a different approach to other groups, no long guitar solos, no charismatic lead singer, but two keyboard players and a tight rythmn section. These first two LPs now on CD show what a refreshing change it made. No noodling along in outre time signatures but jazz and blues based excursions. Given the primitive state of synthesisers compared with today it is a pretty good sound, but serious rockers will miss the guitars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocking out Harum, 5 Dec. 2009
Rather more guitar orientated than organ and piano than perhaps their previous discs have been, or indeed were to become. Robin Trower is really just starting his Hendrix wannebe phase but that doesn't detract from some strong lyrics from the inestimable Keith Reid. The whole thing shines on brightly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Early Chapman at his best, 5 Dec. 2009
I really bought this for Fully Qualified Survivor which was a staple on my turntable at University (Hull). That probably dates me but the CD sent me back there and to occasional nights at the Polar Bear where Michael Chapman did some gigs (see Polar Bear Rag). Stand out tracks are Aviator and Postcards of Scarborough. For you youngsters out there, have a listen to his output before he came over all new agey.

French Finance and Financiers Under Louis XV
French Finance and Financiers Under Louis XV
by James Murray
Edition: Paperback
Price: £24.95

2.0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware, 23 Jun. 2007
This is a reprint of an 1858 edition. You are given no warning of this in the book description. Don't use it for the most up to date account of French finance under Louis XV but if your desire is for some historiography then it is perfectly acceptable
