5.0 out of 5 stars Old but interesting, 7 Mar 2014

Why would anyone want a travel guide that's nearly 20 years old? In my case, vanity, because I and my restaurant are reviewed in it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 28 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After looking forward to receiving this after reading some fulsome reviews, I found it disappointing and pedestrian, and frankly boring

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoky LA Jazz Club, 28 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Lots of great songs, many with the atmosphere of a smoky jazz club, and an interesting and amusing song called Marijuana, sung by Julia Lee, which deserves more renown.

Interesting to see this collection of films, most of them new to me. The doors in Bluebeard's Eighth Wife are incredibly wide!

Make Your Mark: The Drawing Book for Children

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent children's Drawing book - great present for children (and teachers), 8 Sep 2012
This clever book attractively illustrates ways to build a child's confidence in drawing. The often-quirky drawings show how even a scribble can be turned into art. The cleverness lies in the way that the pictures, photos and signs which illustrate every page are all designed to encourage the reader to want to try the techniques being explained. I can't imagine it would be possible to work (play?) through this book and not end up more confident and enthusiastic about drawing. This would make a perfect present for any child of primary school age, and for teachers who would be glad to have such a great book to help enthuse their classes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, perfect gift for a child (or a teacher), 8 Dec 2011
This book is rare in children's books in that it is an excellent transition book for children weaned on picture-based, text-light books who are ready to move on to books with more words. The clever and amusing story, written in chapters and beautifully illustrated, has inspired every child I have read it to; they love the characters, the story and the revival of The Princess. They were eager to design their own cakes, prompted by the page showing Ronnie Rock's dad's selection as well as the terrifying cake produced by Ronnie and his best friend while his father was out. There is even a quiz at the end. This is ideal as a book for a child to read or to have read to them. I based most of a day's teaching on this book, and have fantastic displays to show for it. We had the author at the school doing workshops on the book. Very amusing and inspiring! There is hot competition in the class for the 2 copies we have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgotten Classic, 23 Aug 2011
Beautifully produced quality disco-era track from Carol Douglas, also (not very) well-known for Doctor's Orders. Miles away from a lot of the cheap stuff around at the time.It reached number 1 on the US Disco charts in 1976

5.0 out of 5 stars Enid's rare flash of humour, 24 Jan 2010
I think this is Enid Blyton's only book that displays a sense of humour; I remember laughing at it when I was a child, and have introduced some 9 year-old children to it recently and they too laughed at it. As an avid reader of her books when I was young, I can't remember any others that were humorous.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE definitive book on the era, 2 Nov 2009
What a remarkable, well-researched, fascinating account of this era. Having read several other books on the same subject(and enjoyed them), I can recommend this as the one that really gets to the core of it all. Its a masterful piece of work.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mary Hartman track a forgotten classic, 2 Nov 2009
Most of this double CD is not my particular bag from the West End catalogue, though it would probably please many. However, it seems to be the only way you can get hold of the Sounds of Inner City track Mary Hartman Mary Hartman (a tedious US 70's sitcom), which is a Vince Montana produced delight Check out the song, you'll buy the CD!
