What's new pussycat? Whoa!, 12 May 2014
They say some things are eternal and this is one of them. Although this classical comedy of the political arts is set in the 1970's, the superb Machiavellian machinations of the people who really run the country - our cherished Civil Service - are there for all to see. The political class of esteemed M.P.s is but a frothy collection of pantomime puppet performers because it is Sir James Hacker & Co. who really dangle the strings of power. They are the real political masters and they are, as ever, quintessentially English and, above all, deadly. As countless MPs have found to their cost, you cross this magnificent edifice of the Established Order at your peril. Next! Who's next for the greasy pole?
