4.0 out of 5 stars Does One Have To Have "To Kill" In A Title ?, 5 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

A lot has been said, already,
therefore, simply this :

A familiar patronising yet fair depiction of
quite common in the yester Hollywood films,
that today's U.S.A. standards
~ of depiction AND otherwise ~
surmount to,
"unadulterated bullying".

I would like to also add the following,

It is sweet to dance to violins
when life and love are fair
~ Oscar Wilde

And this is how it Truth Fully feels, when
the "powers that be", finally deliver
a fair production,
in a multiplicity of human languages
that otherwise choose to ignorantly, ignore.

Thank You,

1.0 out of 5 stars "Hollywood Style" misogyny, receiving the 2012's misobservance treatment? Stuggering!, 22 Mar 2014
This review is from: The Artist [DVD] (DVD)

What else was there to expect from
the writer/director/co-editor
Michel Hazanavicius,
"OSS 117 -
spy-film parodies".
(There is a full-stop to end the above phrase, because
the question-mark, is redundant.)

"Stuffing", a "bit of stuff",
in order to "do one's stuff",
is "so hilarious"!
And "iff"
one is not laughing,
one has simply no sense of humour,
doesn't one!
(Exclamations marks applied!)

~ "Parody",
plied to travesty (here, as a verb)
debaushed grotesqueness. ~

And thus, "The Artist" 's,
Female Depiction (in order of appearance) :
* underminded supporting-star
* vindictive supporting-star
* mindless fanbase
* exploitative wannabe
* apprehensive wife (and not a spouse)
* expedient lass
* impressionable sweetheart
* apathetic wife (and not a spouse)
* opportunistic supporting-star
* airhead starlets (their giggling is the ONLY human sound, till the men's voices in the very end)
* unsound jeunesse doree
* resentful wife (and not a spouse)
* oblivious accessory
* neurotic wife (and not a spouse)
* ungrateful girl
* remorseful desciple
* malignant wife (and no longer spouse)
* repentant maiden
* uncredited singer
* obsessive penitent
* typical allurer
* lax bystander
* undisciplined tendential
* credulous nursemaid
* gratifying mate
* cocky "bird" (she even whistles, although WE never hear her)
* adherent dame
* unsophisticated carer
* hysterical gal
* tempestuous devotee
* selfless pleaser
* slinky sidekick

Major awards
- Oscars (best supporting actress),
- Globe (best performance in a MUSICAL or COMEDY supporting actress)
- SAGs (outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role)
- BAFTAs (best actress in a LEADING role)
: none

As to the "Soundtrack" of this "silent-movie",
produced during an era of
epitomies in technological "sound" enhancement
and colourful palette of Composers?
(The question mark is ironical?)

The writer/director/co-editor,
was thorough enough in his quest,
to raise the "project" to the challenge

* emulating Bernard Herrmann's "Vertigo" 1958's love-theme composition,
extensively, for climactical scenes
"it's not illegal" and they "paid for that"
(Michel Hazanavicius, on CNN, January 2012);

* expropriating Rose "Chi-Chi" Murphy's rendition
of "Pennies From Heaven",
with no credit,
a song she sang in 1936,
when the film itself is set between 1927-1932.

"Best Original Score", awards all around ...
(An ellipsis, if there ever was one ...)

Oh! By the way ?

... "Sub~lime !!!" ...

Thank You,

Post Scriptum: -
The films that received the 2012 major awards
for any female performances were for
- "The Iron Lady",
- "My Week With Marilyn"
- "The Help".

"Hollywood Style" misogyny, receiving the 2012's misobservance treatment? Stuggering!

1.0 out of 5 stars Why isn't there a "none star" ?, 6 Mar 2014
This review is from: The Guest House [DVD] (DVD)

Quite honestly, I believed that "female on female" fantasy,
as per the induction of male onanism, would "rise to a higher diffusion"
... but, apparently "not so" !!!

What is definately NOT surprising AT ALL, is
the fact that, this "whatever it is supposed to be called",
is an established "feature", formally promoted
for a mainstream "consumption".(LOL)

It is not surprising because,
it is a product of "the old world paradigm",
- which kept human kind enslaved,
and true female kind, obliterated.

In addition,
based on this old world paradigm of duality and separation,
"I hate it",
is the choice of the fake opposite of,
"I love it",
here represented by
"one star"
"five star",

I, simply, elect not to consider this "feature".
It is not "of mine" to collect and carry-on.
So, I acknowledge what it is and choose,
to step aside and lightly progress.

Why was this "re-view" then, written ? I ask mySelf.

Again, it is simple.
Because, it is my journey
from my original question in the title,
to this received awareness of a review.

Thank You,

Greetings !

The title of this review says it all ... !!! ...

And, yes! I Am going to give it a five star,
and yes! I Am buying it,
AND wholeheartedtly recommend it,
exactly because of all that !

The all-important high school, is named after the most notable person
of U.S.A.'s FemaleNess, "Eleanor B. Roosevelt", and
the following quote IS taken from the movie (at approximately 55:05),
and love to share it further :

I would rather lose in a cause that will someday win,
than win in a cause that will someday lose.
~ Eleanor B. Roosevelt

Watch out supefluous blockbuster and pretentious arty-farty films !

I find it difficult to put into words the "audio~treasure" this IS.

"Steve 'DP'", You have done a good work of it and I thank You.

Goodness Gracious !

If for nothing else(!),
the "package" of "Re-bE"
IS the Very Best One,
I have ever experienced !!!

And, since "recordings" are nowadays sold digitalised,
"Re-bE", is the Very Best Wholesome Record,
probably of my lifetime.

It is "a splendid cup of tea" of the "inner" kind ... !!! ...

4.0 out of 5 stars A review on the reviews, 16 Dec 2013
This review is from: Room In Rome [DVD] [2010] (DVD)

Greetings !

Sort of a review on the reviews I read about this film.

I didn't see just naked women having sex,
there was a story unpretentiously unfolding,
while the presence of characters honestly and steadily got revealed,
it was colourfully pleasant, affable and interesting.

I like FEATURE films to be truthful and engaging.

And this particular one,
I have to admit
was a refreshing take of a male writer/director
to render female to female love,
without the "arty-farty VOYEURISTIC gaze"
that got so "fashionable", as of late!

Unassuming "female to female Love"...?
Yap, this film "got the mark"!

That is what I think.

Thank You.

1.0 out of 5 stars An arty-farty film exalting voyeurism, 15 Dec 2013

Basically the title of this review says it all.

It is a film saturated with "the male gaze", typical of
an heterosexual male rendering "the lesbian love(-making)"!

The two attractive actresses with extremely sensual bodies,
give an excellent portrayal of the "real",
the "principal voyeur", -which is what the "director" is-,
desperately tries to depict
for three whole hours, less couple of minutes.

All the social issues,
which we get to watch a sketching of at the beginning,
as for example,
"peer-group pressure", "homophobia" or "apathetic parenting",
are there to allure the rest of us viewers,
into this
seemingly "faux-naif",
but essentially (=in essence)
in toto "faux", authentic first love-female to female love.

All in all,
a very long porn film,
with more dialogue than usual
and an artistic outline.

Thank You.

Jacobsons Women's Grassy Wellingtons Boots
Jacobsons Women's Grassy Wellingtons Boots

1.0 out of 5 stars Apologies to fellow-consumers for late review, 14 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

Made the purchase mid-Autumn of 2012,
as a gift for a friend.

The boots were meant to be worn twice a day,
for my friend to escort her child to and fro, school.
A casual walking TOTAL distance of 20 (twenty) minutes.

Shoes "broke-out" before Christmas of 2012!!!

This friend of mine, was at the time living
and thus wearing the boots, in Athens, Greece!

Hardly the "hard wearing or weather conditions",
to justify the lightning speed of decay they "suffered"!!!

Please, do NOT purchase!

A total waste of money
and "gift" joy!

Thank You

3.0 out of 5 stars Unique Artistry ~ in not so good image & sound quality, 14 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Mcferrin, Bobby - Live - DVD (DVD)

I hold such great admiration for this UNIQUE Artist.

That is why I was willing to pay a bit extra, to get the DVD.
(And no, not the sixty odd pounds I now see it priced!!!)

I say this because, I felt bitterly disheartened
by the poor quality of the image and sound
from this particular DVD!

I own a simple TV screen, no great, "state of the art" technology, and so
it felt even more daunting!

Range of "live" shows, also limiting.

However, one gets a clear view of the versatility
of the world's, most exquisite of Artists.

Thank You
