4.0 out of 5 stars Bright but a bit diffuse, 1 April 2013
The spot was as bright as might be expected from a 1mW laser, especially when shone into a dark sky. The laser is powerful enough that you can actually feel the warmth of the spot where it his your skin within a few seconds. The only issue was russet the spot was a lot more diffuse than other lasers I've seen, when presenting with this pointer I had people mention they found it hard to focus on.

Some other reviews have suggested it has struggled to play a large number of DVDs but I have had no problems. Others suggest it is really noisy during operation, but again I've not had any of these problems. The DVD player plays dvds as expected, has all the standard operations on the remote and includes upscaling. My TV is only a 21" so the upscaling is absolutely fine, I can't say whether the quality would be good enough for larger TVs but I don't see why it wouldn't. I can't imagine there are many more functions that are really needed in a DVD player so there doesn't seem much of a reason to get a more expensive player.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Album, 27 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Considering this animated film is probably aimed at a young audience it has a really great soundtrack. There are some films that seem to have generic action music but this soundtrack has done a really good job of setting the feel for the film and linking to its viking setting. There are some really emotive tracks, especially the forbidden friendship track. Some of the tracks repeat the same themes throughout the film, which may make it feel like you are hearing the same song more than once, but I feel there is enough variety to make it a good album. The music wouldn't work if it constantly changed style, it does change throughout but is held together well.

4.0 out of 5 stars The title says it all., 9 Jun 2010

This review is from: CSS in Easy Steps (Paperback)
The book is well written and easy to follow. The title says in easy steps and it certainly feels that way. It can be read through and the order is mostly logical. I tend to use the book to look in the contents to find the relavent section and I find it works well as a reference book with each section having a concise example that can be downloaded from the website. The book goes well with other books in the series such as the javascript one I have. The full colour examples look good, and the author has given the view from a number of browsers to ensure you understand the difference between different company's browsers. I did find one issue in that the unit of Em was not explained before it went into use, though when it was explained a couple of chapters later it was a good explanation. The book assumes basic knowledge of HTMl so it may well assume you know the units as well, though as it explained them afterwards it appears it may not have. As the values of Ems were clear in the examples it wasn't neccesary to know what the unit meant for the example to work. As CSS is required for web design it might have been nice to have a few more hints in the book about good design in a website, but apparently the book is purely how to use CSS and any application of it was useful but it is left up to the reader to find another source for design style. Overall a great book, definitely a great start in CSS and for the casual web designer it's probably all you need though I'm sure there is a lot you can do with CSS that isn't covered but doesn't need to be covered at this level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such great characters, and really good storylines, 8 April 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As my title says, the charcters are really great, and they have really well written storylines to go with them. The first series was really good, it set the scene and made you comfortable with all the charcters, the second series has enhanced all the characters, and come up with some really funny scenarios. It's nice to see some famous stars willing to appear as themselves in the programme along with some actual physicists, goes to show how succesful the programme has become. The DVDs also contain a few extras, I'd personally like to see more, but the ones on there are interesting, being a physics student myself, I like to see how they bring in current topics in physics and that if you watch through the series they progress in a realistic way, even if it is ust in the background. A great show, great actors, and hilarious storylines, what else do you need from a super geeky sitcom?

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent item to make swimming more fun, 16 Jan 2009
It is an excellent device, it does a fantastic job of providing music underwater. The sound quality is very good, and apart from the gurgle of water that you would hear anyway, you get the same sound you would were you not swimming.
You have to be a bit careful with it, make sure the ear buds are on properly and you put them in when you are dry. My first session I managed to get water inside the ear buds, this stopped the ear from working for the whole session, left to dry the problem stopped and has been fine ever since. The mp3 player is compatible with windows media player which is useful, though windows media player puts the tracks on the player in artist order even if you have clicked shuffle and the player plays them in artist order (probably media players fault not the Aquabeat) meaning you get a load of songs from the same artist. The software provided is easy to use, though mine has come up with a problem occasionally, which is why I have used windows media player. The Aquabeat can play both MP3 and WMA files, so only really a problem for people using iTunes, but it comes with a leaflet telling you how to convert the files.
I swam both frontcrawl and breaststroke and found the mp3 player comfortable, it is a bit weird to get used to, but it doesn't restrict you in anyway. I haven't tried backstroke and I can imagine it could cause a problem when your arms sweep past your ears.
Overall this is a great product, one of the first waterproof players I've seen on sale in the UK and has done a good job, a few tiny problems, but that is expected with any gadget and even more so when it is designed to go underwater, and as the problems haven't caused anything to go permanently wrong I don't think they are anything to worry about.
