A competent and well written book about a subject matter seldom encountered, the enlistment of Alsace citizens in the German Wehrmacht. The Author writes well on the theme, chiefly the perceived discomfort of the vast majority of the enlistee's and the haste upon which these men fled the service of a "foreign" Army. Though a little ponderous at times, this book can be seen has an important document on a seldom researched topic, though I think anyone with a keen interest in similar books of this ilk, should also try to purchase a book on the more willing Frenchmen who took up arms to fight for Hitler against the Soviet Union. You can then comprehend this subject in a more balanced way.

Five Years, Four Fronts: The War Years of Georg Grossjohann, Major, German Army (Retired)
Five Years, Four Fronts: The War Years of Georg Grossjohann, Major, German Army (Retired)
Price: £3.66

Wow, five years, four fronts, now that must be one hell of a book!. Actually, from the very first chapter on, you are largely underwhelmed by the Grossjohann memoirs. This soldier also merited the high honour of joining the ranks of the Knights cross holders, though you would find it hard to understand why, especially if you are trying to find out why within the text of the book. A more fitting title of this book, would be "Five sentences, Four words ", that's about all that you will find interesting in this book.

This review is from: Salzburg to Stalingrad (Paperback)
A very well written book, with detailed description, and with a sprinkling of wit throughout. Herr Sinnhuber was a keen adherent of both flying, and for a lengthy spell of WW2 of the regime he fought for. He describes with adequate detail his Hitler Youth gliding, early Luftwaffe training, and ultimate service with the less renowned Courier service based in Russia. He briefly engaged in "Storkampf" missions, or night harassment sorties, and these are of interest to the keen Luftwaffe historian. He ultimately found himself fighting briefly with the Fallschirm Panzer Regiment Goring in both the Eastern and western fronts, were he was captured by the American Forces.
In conclusion, Herr Sinnhuber has written a very competent book, in which you will read of several of the more unheralded aspects of Luftwaffe operations, which in itself is worthy of particular merit.

Got this for my sister who collects such fluffy things, she was made up ! My memory of Bagpuss takes me back to my school days, when a flu bug would see me allowed off school for a week or so. There I lay, swathed in blankets, my Mum fussing about me holding a Lucozade bottle, or Ribena if my Dad had won on the horses, when I would suddenly hear the opening lines of the sagacious Bagpuss, to be soon joined by his several mice friends, what BLISS ! I soon settled back down, my Mum would quit her fussing for bloody Crown Court was on next ! Ah well, back to my plan to see if I could blag a few more days off school. Was that not the wise message Bagpuss was telling his mice about ?

This review is from: Jack The Ripper [DVD] [1988] (DVD)
Do you remember the hue and cry throughout the papers about this film, "now we WILL find out who the fabled Ripper is !" Well I like many other's sat back to watch this ground breaking production with a very keen interest. Michael Caine portrays remarkably well the role of chief investigator in this period piece set in 19th century London, alongside an equally accomplished cast who seem to revel in their surroundings. What is played out very entertainingly is the conspiracy portrayed in a book I recall reading (the title alludes me) in which the Queen's very own Doctor, Sir William Gull emerges has the "name behind the knife". Taken has a forensic examination of the available facts regarding the Ripper slayings you will have to decide for yourself if the Gull conclusion is viable. However has an example of escapist drama with no little suspense, created by an able and enthusiastic cast, you cant go wrong adding this to your DVD collection, well worth my 5 star rating.

I believe a third helping of "Hatchet" is now available, well if you are using this film has a guide to future purchase of said "Hatchet 3", I would say, "go ahead, the number two version is worth a look!" You get the usual screaming "dead men walking" running through swampy forests chased by some deformed, indestructible chap, but though we have seen it all before, you cannot help yourself cracking open a Lager and eating some chip butties, and looking for which victim gets the best mutilating, and who is the (usually female) survivor, which set's up nicely the next instalment.

I chose this canvas to replace our tired looking fireplace décor, and I was pleased with my choice upon it's arrival. I guess the true test of any canvas art piece is seeing it when finally in situ. Close up you think "bloody hell" that isn't all that great, but when you sit back on your sofa to look up at it, you think, "job's a good un ! ".

Oh what a shame ! The author Herr Kindler has wrote a book here which could have been so much better. If you are expecting a first person account of the author's distinguished and exceptionally valorous time spent with the elite Leibstandarte SS Division (has I was), you will be left has frustrated as I became when reading this book. The author became a rare recipient of the Close Combat Clasp in Gold, for his bravery both on the Eastern and late war Western front's, indeed he earned over 80+ confirmed day's of this most personal, "hand's on " form of fighting. You will unfortunately be left exasperated by Herr Kindler barely describing in great detail any of these close combat engagements !
He writes in a format more appropriate for Divisional history books, mentioning the logistics before and after each battle the Leibstandarte (and he himself) takes part in, mentioning as if keeping a tally, "that was my 37th close combat day ! ". You end up "screaming" yes Herr Kindler, but what did YOU do ? However, you will acknowledge the prowess of his unit in action, and the bravery of his fellow Waffen SS Panzer Grenadiers which he portrays very well, alongside the constant theme of praise for his Commander at that time, the Legendary Joachim Peiper.
In summary, I would say if you require a more anecdote laden book on the Waffen SS, I would suggest the recent excellent book "Fur Volk and Fuhrer" by Erwin Bartmann, but if you need to brush up on the actions of the Panzer Grenadier formations pertaining to the Leibstandarte "Adolf Hitler", then this is your book

A book lacking in any real substance considering the subject matter. This book will not go down has the ultimate authority on the "butcher of Poland" but if you desire a more basic knowledge of Frank it is worth buying. The work, and crimes of Frank during his tenure in Poland is only briefly covered and this is naturally the area where Frank merited his infamy.

I guess I was attracted by the famous title of these sweets, I mean who wouldn't want to try the "everlasting gobstopper" !
However, I equally cannot deny, that they are not the best when it comes to taste, which I think is the overriding point of this product. Nice packaging though !!
