5.0 out of 5 stars J.Edgar - the latest addition to our household, 17 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Who enjoys hoovering? Well I'm delighted to say that J.Edgar does. He'll do it all day long if you charge him up every 2 or 3 hours. Carpets that I've been hoovering glumly for 5 years suddenly look brighter after J.Edgar has stepped in. The only downside, at first, was that he choked on large quantities of my wife's hair; now this is under control he pootles around our bungalow cleaning and fluffing up the carpets to his heart's (and ours) content. Best gadget I've bought in years - and I _really_ like gadgets. As a bonus, he's quite the entertainer - all the family (resident and non-) can't help smiling as he goes about his work in a sort of cute bumbling random walk.

Every home should have one!

WARNING: The instruction manual is unreadable rubbish - and frequently inaccurate. There is an equally unreadable - but more accurate one available on-line - just Google the product name to find and download it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great ink cartridges at a bargain basement price, 16 Nov. 2013

Can't tell the print quality from the originals - tho' I've yet to run them to empty, so don't know how long they will last. I had a problem with my printer appearing to reject the cartridges so contacted the seller; they responded very quickly and advised me to replace all of the HP cartridges (these were the mini-capacity "starter" cartridges supplied with the printer) and then removing power for an hour or two before re-trying. Success - and 10 out of 10 for the supplier's support - thanks guys!

Netgear Ready Nas NV+ 4 Bay Gigabit Desktop Network Storage System
Netgear Ready Nas NV+ 4 Bay Gigabit Desktop Network Storage System

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little NAS, 11 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A great little NAS for £175 - I bought it to replace an old Buffalo TeraStation that had died, though it was also getting to be a tad small at 750GB. Initially I've populated it with a pair of 2TB WD Red drives (£186 in total) giving a little under 2TB usable space for around £350 quid and expandable with up to two more drives to a maximum just under 6TB (RAID 5) - that should keep me going for a while. It's also quite attractive - if you like that sort of thing (I do).

It's very quiet, fast (much much faster than the old TeraStation) and takes up very little space. Also it was a doddle to set up - installing drives and configuring it on my network with a fixed IP address took less than 10 minutes, which was followed by an 18 hour backup/sync. Also, it took some time for the Memeo backup software to licence itself - this took a reboot - however, the NAS is now keeping all my network machines backed up in real time with a synchronised copy.

I don't plan to use it for anything other than backups so can't comment on things like streaming performance.

Being a belt and braces (plus a piece of baler twine) person after years in IT, I take traditional incremental backups on another device (using Acronis TI) and all the important stuff (e.g. photos and unreplaceble documents) is also sync'ed to dropbox. What could possibly go wrong! After years in IT I know that something will one day - you just have to be ready for it!

The box also claims to have hot swappable SATA drives - I'm not looking forward to being in a position to have to rely on this - too much excitement!

Update: Started to use this unit to store media as well as (one of) my backup sets, so added two more drives a while back. Took quite a few hours to rebuild the array (which doesn't stop it being used as normal - with only a small performance hit), but now have 5-and-a-bit-TB of RAID5 disc space in this tiny quiet box.

5.0 out of 5 stars OEM quality at a non-OEM price, 21 Feb. 2012

Indistinguishable from the Canon branded equivalent except that the full set cost about half as much as a single branded cartridge. It's a no-brainer really!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great looking case, 21 Feb. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very smart and attractive case for the Samsung 10.1 tablet - it makes it look a bit like an expensive, large and thin desk diary. Gives limited protection in that it helps to stop from being scratched but wouldn't do much if you dropped it on the floor. For serious protection you'd need a different (and probably far less attactive) solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent card with huge capacity, 7 Sept. 2011

I've tried a few cheap 32GB micro sdhc cards and they've all had to be returned. This one was a bit more expensive but it works - no contest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great case, 7 Sept. 2011

A lovely soft leather case that clips securely on to a belt and protects the phone effectively. The Galaxy S2 is a big phone (with a gorgeous huge screen); this case makes it much easier to carry around without a bulging pocket.

Extremely Entertaining Short Stories: Classic Works of a Master
Extremely Entertaining Short Stories: Classic Works of a Master
by Stacy Aumonier
Edition: Paperback
Price: £12.99

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful writing from the early 20th century, 7 Sept. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These are beautifully written stories. Aumonier is all but forgotten when he should be as well known the master short story writers from around the same time; Greene, Kipling, Maugham and Munro for example.

The variety is amazing, there are mysteries, gentle musings on life, thrillers, comedies ... all human life is here. On top of that Aumonier has wonderful turns of phrase, for example, "In spite of his missing limb, St Clair Chasseloup was the kind of man who always looked as though he had just had a cold bath, done Swedish drill, and then passed through the hairdresser's on his way to your presence." I've no idea what Swedish drill may have been (tho it sounds frighteningly energetic) but the dynamism of the phrase "passed through the hairdresser's" is just so spot-on.

The only downside is that 554 pages of good quality paper is a bit heavy when reading in bed for as long as these stories make you want to keep reading.

Brilliant space saving cable that goes round corners much more easily than the standard round stuff. Also, it doesn't tangle as easily and it takes up much less room in a laptop bag. Brilliant idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small scale - but perfectly formed, 5 Nov. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this to replace some much more expensive electronic scales that failed when they were exactly 13 months old. These are, thanks to the one-piece mini-slab design, much easier to grab and use and I can put it away on-edge so it takes up very little space. They seem pretty accurate and the screen has large easy-to-read characters. The negative weight feature is also really useful - e.g. if you want 4 oz of treacle you can put the tin on the scales and remove treacle until the scale says -4oz. The only unknow is how long will they last...
