5.0 out of 5 stars Great thing tht works., 22 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Have been using this since January and cannot complain. This thing really works. It does consume much more foundation as compared to finger application, but it also creates a better look. No mold, does not fall apart so far. But it does require washing in soapy water and a good dry after each application or everyday whichever comes first. Would definitely buy again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a case indeed, 22 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As someone says in previous reviews, it should not be described as a case. Rather it is a square-shaped wheeled bag. However, this is the price that you pay for its extremely light weight, so if you carrier has weight restrictions on cabin luggage, this one can save you a couple of kilos. The same about balance and falling down. This bag (as all soft bags do) requires some logistical management to distribute weight inside. The best solution is to put into the inner zipped pocket a couple of A4 format books to create counterbalance because all the other stuff naturally leans forward. So with books inside the bag does not fall down. Other than that, the teddy bear or whoever should be really very big to fit the slot. My boy inserted the giant pug and a baby pug. The colours are bright, the child is happy. Have not tested for sturdiness yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great purchase, 27 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Does the job, although is quite fragile, requires care when put on the mattress because it easily gets torn by the bed frame, although this can be tapped. The lock has only two more replacement clasp, so don't know where to get more after three washes.

Looks very realistic, my son loves it. Big enough and good quality: nice fur to touch and great colour, clear eyes, etc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing really special, 17 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The author sticks to standard ethnical myths about Russians: that we all do nothing but drink vodka day and night, that our school education is best in the world, that children are brought up by bad-looking but loving babushkas, that under socialism one would go to a concentration camp for any expression of dissenting political views, etc. If you want to get more than that, you will learn how the poor lived in central Russia 20-30 years ago. Most changes in the lifestyle are ignored (may be due to the author's age). Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and the South live quite differently from what he is telling us. The emerging middle class is disregarded, you only get unfunny jokes about the new rich. Russian humour is also misrepresented in the book: it is far way more subtle and delicate. Overall, it is very unlikely that an average tourist would meet the people described in the book. As a tourist guide for someone going to the country the book is not really helpful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Another mistake from this book, 29 May 2013
One of the reviews here has indicated a mistake in the solution of the problem with fungus on page 12.

My 8 y.o. son has just spotted another one on page 7. An explanation says:

"You can calculate the volume of a cube by multiplying its length, width and height.

Each side of this cube measures 3sm.

3x3x3=9 (!!!!)

So the volume of the cube is 9 sm3. (!!!!)"

That is really incredible. If the fungus's problem is about geometrical progression - a more or less complicated thing - this one is just about the basics of multiplication/adding. My son said: "But we get nine when we add 3, 3 and 3, not when we multiply them". Or may be the authors confused the area with the volume of the cube which is anyway inexcusable. BTW, the book has two authors AND a maths education expert!

5.0 out of 5 stars Astounding toy, 12 April 2013

My mum and I decided to buy this for my pocket money because I needed a dungeon for my pirates so I bought it. When I opened it I was AMAZED ! It was not that easy to assemble but at the end It was like a real dungeon ! I play for hours with it . The pirates had a plan to save the captain and really the captain ran away from the dungeon. This set contains 3 figures of soldiers,
weapons, 1 eagle, the main dungeon, and 3 barrels . I really enjoyed this dungeon! I can give this toy more than 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars The book is very good!, 28 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It is not that small because it is VERY condensed and there is no waist of space as in other language books.

As for the content, it is exactly what students preparing for IELTS Academic need. It is not a textbook on how to take the test. It explains how to say and write correct phrases on IELTS topics. It has very good explanations on the first academic essay (the report). Use of articles and prepositions is explained well too.

Briefly, it is not a study-book that prepares you for exam. But it is very useful as a supplement. Strongly recommended for someone who wants to score at more than 6.5.

The book is just awesome!I am a law graduate not a linguist. I understood everything in the book! The book spots very well problems with translation of English law. This book is also witty and is written in a very good style. Excellent price-quality correlation. Strongly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be used with some other book, 16 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well, it's an A5 format book, 96 pages, 25 of which are technical instructions and most of the other pages are half empty. If condensed, I would say, it will take 15 normal pages. Although, it is called "academic", it gives a very general outline of the ACADEMIC writing, absolutely insufficient for someone who needs a high score. No example of a real/ideal essay at all.

The book exactly corresponds to its title: these are just hints. Some of them are common places, although others are quite good. However,in my opinion, there are better hint books available on the market.

The good thing is there is a CD included. It has a video of a real speaking section and this one is authentic. A listening test section is also good and authentic. The writing task for an academic essay is unlikely to be met at a real test. The practice test is about typing your answers on the computer which differs from the good old paper and blunt pencil IELTS.

IMHO, the book could be used by the teachers as a supplement. Definitely, not a comprehensive study-book.
