At last - a business tablet, 11 Aug 2011
I have had an IPAD1 since launch in 2010 and after initial excitement have found that the only use of it for me these days is at the back-end of the day browsing and checking a few info apps. This is fine as done on settee/bed and certainly I have never fallen out of love with the overall beauty of it - I just don't use it as much as I thought I would. I was never expecting to replace my laptop but.....
Since the start of the year and the explosion of new tablets arriving, almost one per week it seems and all claiming to be "IPAD beaters" I have been watching closely. I borrowed an IPAD2 a few months back and although a stunning piece of tech, I was still hampered by the lack of true mult-tasking and no flash.
As with all new tech - when to take the plunge?, are the reviews to be believed?, should I stray from Apple? the answers are a) NOW!, b yes and c) yes.
What a device - stunning in all regards. Comparable to IPAD2 and perhaps slightly better on graphics, look & feel etc but that is not what hooks me in - what gets me is the operating system - WebOS is fantastic. This is a proper "power tablet". This CAN be a replacement for a laptop. Multi-tasking is stunning, built-in apps are good (especially mail app), notifications for incoming mail, all documents in one place. "Quick office" (this is really good). Fast browsing with flash etc. All great and all fast.
I travel a lot on business and used to have to take my laptop AND my ipad - no longer. The laptop will stay at home - the touchpad does ALL I need it to.
Negatives - there has to be some. Actually for me - there is only one - the constantly mentioned - lack of Apps. It is not a big deal for me at the moment but it would be for those IPAD lovers who have 100+ apps (but only use 10!). All I would say about this is that I was an early adopter of HD on digital TV. I upgraded my monthly package as soon as HD was available, friends said I was mad as I only got 6 HD channels - I was promised a lot more and now I have a lot more. Apps for WebOS will come through - do not let this be a reason to hold-off purchase on a Touchpad - if you buy one - you will see how it beats IPAD hands-down on everything except app availibility (at least for now!)
