Why Does E=mc2?
Why Does E=mc2?

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening, 2 Jun 2012

This review is from: Why Does E=mc2? (Paperback)
An enlightening insight into Relativity and Quantum Physics. Provided you have a fairly scientific mind and at least an O'level/GCSE understanding of Physics, then this book should be accessible. Complex concepts are presented mostly in layman's terms making them comprehensible without requiring a deep knowledge of Physics or a huge IQ; however, a familiarity with the terms associated with particle physics and a reasonably good grounding in maths, though not essential, certainly make it an easier read. But, even if a lot of the content is new to you, perseverance will reap great rewards.

Britax Evolva Group 1-2-3 Car Seat (Max/Black)
Britax Evolva Group 1-2-3 Car Seat (Max/Black)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value for money, 30 May 2012

Item was £87.50 delivered, which is great value compared to other car seats, especially as this seat will do the child until they grow out of needing a car seat. Has a fairly easy to adjust harness, which is also easy to use. My only criticism is of the 3-point belt-fastening method of installing the seat in the car [when using the 5-point harness (children under 18kg)] which is quite difficult to install properly - it's awkward and requires a fair bit of strength to get it solidly fixed. However, many car seats have similarly difficult systems. All in all, great value for a well made, good quality car seat, which should be the only one you'll ever need for your child. (Just don't plan on swapping it between cars too often!)
[NB: when I originally ordered this item using 'supersaver delivery' the item never arrived; Amazon accepted that it was lost in transit and reordered with 1st class delivery at no additional cost to me - it arrived 2 days later. The culprits in this saga were Yodel (the delivery company used by Amazon) - it is a mystery how they could have lost something this big (and not exactly lightweight, either)?]

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value, 30 May 2012

At £3.16 delivered, this item was amazing value for money: most of these switches are only 5 or 6 amp (and many only 1 way) and yet cost more - a lot more in some cases. Certainly works perfectly well and having had it all apart (for reasons best known to myself), I can't see any reason why it wouldn't last at least as long as any other pull switch. Has a 15 year guarantee! (I may have invalidated mine.)

Very nice silicon dummies with little animal pictures. Excellent value at £4.90 per pack of two (delivered). The bulb of the dummy is of orthodontic design, but unlike many is quite wide and not solid - my son prefers the large latex bulbs, but was perfectly happy with these.

From Eden To Exile: The Epic History of the People of the Bible
From Eden To Exile: The Epic History of the People of the Bible
by David Rohl
Edition: Paperback
Price: £9.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating & compulsive, 23 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book could be read in isolation, but to get the full benefit of the rationale behind it, it's best to read 'Legend' first (see my separate review). The object of this book is to present Rohl's historical interpretation of the Old Testament and "prove" that it is more than just religious ideology knitted into a series of allegorical fables. In 'Legend' he establishes the foundation on which this book stands (or falls); in this book he has included some further "evidence" to support his case and draws on just about every available source and, in doing so, manages to present a fairly detailed history of the Israelite people over a period of ca 6000 years! Of course, the further back in time it goes, the more speculative it is, however it does (somehow) manage to maintain credibility throughout. Essentially, it is Rohl's own literary history of the Old Testament narrative, well written and brilliantly researched. It really is 'the greatest Story ever told' - although you will have to decide for yourself to what extent it is historically accurate; in any event, it is compulsive stuff (once you get into it) and though it is predominantly supposition, it does nonetheless offer an intriguing insight into the 'biblical world' (of which so little is truly known), and specifically, the creation of the Israelite nation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product, good value, 21 May 2012

Certainly works fine and is as pictured, i.e. class 10, 30MB/s. I think the benefits of the speed of this card is largely indiscernible from slower cards as far as single-frame camera processing speed is concerned - my camera's own processing speed is much more significant overall (Fuji HS20EXR). However, there is little or no delay between pressing the shutter and picture capture, unlike the class 4 I was using previously; in fact, I would say that it is more or less instantaneous - and that's definitely worth having! Overall, good value for an 8GB class 10 card at £8.99 delivered. Certainly has an advantage for single-frame photography over lower class cards, but has most benefit when used to record video. [I notice some complaints of receiving Class 6, 20MB/s cards. I did note that a seemingly identical product (i.e. featuring the 30MB/s image) is being sold for £8.32 delivered, but is described as 20MB/s - I wonder if this is the cause of the complaints?]

4.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous exposé of the New Testament, 6 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you're a Christian, then you should read this book, but you'll probably wish that you hadn't! If you're a non-Christian, then this offers a fascinating insight into the origins of the biblical texts, revealing the many surprisingly contradictory elements - some of which are monumental - and the many instances of forgery. As an atheist, this book gave me a fairly comprehensive overview of the bibles content, without getting bogged down in religious ideology, though it does delve into this area. The book is not intended to completely debunk the bible's ideological message, but principally to question its religious value; it analyses its historical construction, demonstrates that "God" played little part (if any) in that construction or the textual content, while showing that Jesus (whoever he really was) did not invent Christianity and was certainly not divine.
My only criticism is that it is at times rambling, repetitive and lacking in eloquence. Nonetheless, I found it to be pretty addictive reading.
In conclusion, whatever your specific views of Christianity are, this book represents a fascinating revelation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun for the kids...., 6 May 2012

The kids will probably love it, but it will probably drive you mad! The "flip" element relates to when it comes into contact with an obstacle, whereby it drives up and then falls back and drives off in the opposite direction. But, it constantly gets stuck on things (sometimes making a nasty grating noise) or just stops after hitting an obstacle, which means that someone has to keep intervening to keep it going - that's annoying. Requires 3 AA batteries (not supplied); does not indicate whether rechargeable batteries are suitable.
