5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money, 25 Mar. 2013

The bubble wrap is not high quality, but certainly adequate, and the free brown paper isn't at all bad. So, for £3.80 delivered, can't complain.

4.0 out of 5 stars Berwick for the history buffs, 7 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book contains many Victorian and early 20th century photo's of various parts of Berwick - some now lost - with an informative background narrative. Not a thick volume [128 pages & smaller than A4], but for those interested in the subject, definitely worth a look.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fits The Bill, 7 Mar. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A thin [40 pages & smaller than A4 in size], but interesting little book that summarises the history of the formation of the British police force during the Victorian period, with a good few old photo's throughout. Clearly not encyclopedic, but an inexpensive and easy read for anyone with an interest in the subject. Would be quite useful for a school project, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive examination of the extra-Biblical writings, 24 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book focuses on the scroll writings which (by and large) do not feature in the modern canonical Bible. This is not an easy read, but if you have a genuine interest in Biblical history and want to know what the scrolls contribute to a general understanding of the Jewish religious politics that existed in the Jerusalem region during the period ca 200 BCE TO 100 CE, this book provides an excellent, possibly definitive, analysis of the majority of the reconstructed material. The translations are accompanied throughout with discussion of their implications, without being overly speculative, and an abundance of explanatory notes. In conclusion, this is an essential contribution to academic study of the subject, and though heavy going, still accessible to the wider (albeit serious) readership.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sportsmanship? What's that!, 24 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It's amazing how unsporting many sports persons seem to be, especially at the Olympics! Cheating and gamesmanship abounded from the outset of the modern games; the author focuses on some of the worst and best known, as well as some of the less nefarious occurrences. The best stories are generally from the pre-1960 games, but there were still plenty of gob-smacking shenanigans at the more recent events too! Overall, this is well worth a read, though at times I did find it waffling-on a bit about less interesting background and associated trivia, such as lists of competitors names - which, at least on some occasions, would perhaps have been better included as footnotes. You will probably be familiar with some of the more recent dishonorable performances, but it is still interesting to get a fuller story than one may have been aware of at the time. In conclusion, if amusing sporting/historical anecdotes are of interest, then this book provides quite a few.

4.0 out of 5 stars A filling snack of a book, 20 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you enjoyed the BBC series, then you will find this little gem a fascinating and amusing read. A book that can be dipped into at random or leisurely perused; informative, surprising and bizarre detail, all presented with a cheeky wit. However, be warned, this is not for the narrow-minded, as it does contain a fair amount of profanity and covers many "taboo" subjects. But if you're okay with that, then this is a brilliant exposé of the cruder side of the English language - warts and all!

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable value, 14 Nov. 2012

At £3.70 delivered, these represent pretty good value for money. They are well made and have nice bright colours. They have the standard large latex teat. [It's worth noting that I subsequently found a pack of 4 dummies which were almost identical to these in a Pound shop.]

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and cheerful, 14 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These are made entirely of felt, including the santa image, which is a glued on felt collage - and does not look nearly is good as the picture! The bags are not all that big, so large presents won't fit and not many medium sized parcels would fit in either - don't expect to get all your presents into one or even both bags, unless they are mostly fairly small. How many times they could be used without falling apart is debatable, but they don't seem particularly robust. All that said, they are pretty cheap and fairly decorative and would be fine for young kids [under 5's]. I think 2.5 - 3 stars is probably as generous as I could be, given that they are very cheap [I paid £5 delivered for a pair].
