5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely my favourite such adapter and will buy some more., 17 April 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
More solidly made than the adapters you often buy in airports etc and seem to fit many sockets more smoothly. Also they have earthing tags top and bottom again not always the case. Finally, they fit tight-access sockets such as those in some European conference tables.

Absolutely fine in my quite old Brother multifunction machine. As always check carefully the cartridge is the type you want. Like most printer makers, Brother has several different cartridge fittings mostly not interchangeable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted at a very reasonable price, 25 Mar. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very simple item that works well. Solid aluminium about 3mm thick. The single joint is easy to move, but tight enough it won't slip accidentally. Soft plastic pads protect the finish on the back of the iPad. Grippy plastic feet, plus the stand's solid construction and the weight of the iPad itself, means there is no danger of the iPad falling or tipping over. This holds my iPad Pro without difficulty in both landscape and portrait orientation. Very handy for keeping an eye on corporate webinars without taking up valuable monitor space while I actually do some work on the PC! Also good for reading Kindle books while eating dinner :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars A proud tradition, continued using astounding modern technology, 1 Nov. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These new super-bright LED Mag-Lites leave their predecessors of a few years ago, excellent though those were for their time, trailing in the dust. The 274 Lumen output is staggering to behold: around twice the light of the previous generation 2 D-Cell LED model or the original 6 D-Cell monster. And the light is pure white, which you may have once thought was the case with the incandescent versions, but a side-by-side comparison shows the truth! Not much to say about the feel and construction, which is simply the standard expected of, invented by, and set by, Mag since its early days. The gunmetal finish is very attractive and everything is solid and looks weatherproof. A bit expensive but superb technology. I am expecting the battery life to be excellent, but have not yet measured it. As always with Mag-Lites, inspect an unused torch every few months to ensure batteries do not leak and stick inside. The torches depend on white LEDs for which very deservedly Nobel Prizes were recently won. A towering achievement of engineering and applied physics, bringing wonders to ordinary people at an affordable, if premium, price. Mag-Lite torches have always been a pleasure to own, as well as highly practical, effective tools. This model continues the proud tradition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good detail, satisfyingly weighty, a bit delicate, 18 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The front undercarriage broke when I misguidedly tried to see if the wheels rotated. The starboard wingtip bumped against another model and broke off. No real complaint, I was careless putting several models where I tended to move them around. Just take note. Overall a good model. Bit smaller than I expected, but again that's my fault, the dimensions given were perfectly clear. And it does make the model easier to store / display. For the size, the detail is good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Curiously gentle (or not?) murder mystery, 29 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I'm currently about half way through, and whilst it's not a keep-you-reading-all-night-to-finish-it book, the narrative does grip, plus the characters are insightfully drawn. Sandhamn clearly suffers from the St. Mary Mead Syndrome (Agatha Christie - Miss Marple) whereby implausibly large numbers of vicious murders happen in an otherwise quiet idyllic backwater. There are plenty of other examples of this in crime fiction: Inspector's Morse's Oxford, Midsomer Murders (also UK TV), Brunetti's Venice (Donna Leon) etc etc. So it's an accepted trope of the genre, and one goes along with it. Accordingly, one gets a hard-boiled police procedural combined with a gentle perspective on the rest of life. However ... Sten's character psychology is a steel core to the book. The murder mystery is really just an excuse to explore some tough-minded reflections on the lives of ordinary people. It's a combination that could indeed have legs, so I suspect I will continue with the series, depending how well the plot threads, character elaboration and denoument are handled here.

Small Wars: (The new Jack Reacher short story) (Kindle Single)
Price: £1.99

4.0 out of 5 stars A stopgap but it purrs along so it was welcome, 3 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The plot is a bit obvious, but it hardly matters, because the Reacher series is, like Chandler, becoming less about what happened than what the hero made of it. In most ways that's a good thing. As always, Child's feel for the American landscape is remarkable: there are always at least two strong characters in Child's books: Reacher, and the landscape.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant mini series one of the best such things for years, Blu-ray is an object lesson, 20 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Takes Ian Fleming's real life and embroiders it a bit, based on what was clearly his own fantasy (in part, as for many of his readers) to "be" Bond. Yet Fleming's own life was in some emotional and social ways MORE remarkable than his fictional creation. Fantastic concept, brilliantly acted and photographed, and some serious character and historical insight to boot. One of the best things I've come across in years. Of course, a Blu-ray from a modern era mini series is outstanding technically, as one would hope and expect. Not many extras, but what there is, is excellent. Warning: there is some very "non politically correct" but, in my view, psychologically accurate, sex in this. (Not really physically explicit - on the contrary it's the emotional aspects of it that may provoke disagreement depending on your mindset). The opening sequence alone is worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but effective if you use Thunderbolt, still some question marks over USB3 although it's very fast with either, 12 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If I had reviewed earlier, would have dropped one star because the drive is erratic appearing in Windows over USB3 - at least half the time, I had to spin up a different model of Lacie drive, on another USB port, before the machine would recognize this one. Bear this in mind if USB3 is your only option. There may be a fix, but I didn't find one - admittedly I stopped trying once I discovered how much better an option Thunderbolt is. My current 5 star score refers to using the drive over Thunderbolt, which is reliable once you install the right driver - Lacie's driver, NOT the default Windows driver. Go to Lacie's website which has the driver download and instructions. These, whilst a little intricate, do work. On USB3 the drive is fast, on Thunderbolt, at best it is faster, at least on reads. For writes, it's a lot slower in mirrored RAID mode which I use - but that has to be expected because of the double writes for data security. On reads, it does appear fast enough that you can get a bit of additional value from the remarkable top speed of Thunderbolt above and beyond USB3's already pretty impressive speed. Having owned quite a number of Lacie drives (still using most of them) I am confident it will be reliable mechanically for the natural life of the disks inside. Very useful - oh and it daisy chains perfectly to a DisplayPort display. Best case I achieved just under 150 MB/sec from this Lacie drive to my laptop SSD main drive over USB3, which is a very good result for the large number of small files in my test (more realistic for most real life situations). Going back from the laptop to the Lacie was more like 40 MB/sec, still quite good as it's probably faster than USB2 could go. Over Thunderbolt, I achieved Lacie-to-laptop speeds of a staggering 160-165 MB/sec with small files and over 170 MB/sec with fewer very large files. So the potential is very impressive. Of course if you want, you could run in striped RAID mode with no data protection, but potentially much higher write speeds. Bear in mind what I said: my laptop has an SSD main drive. You may not get these results with a conventional internal drive in your machine. In short, very fast with USB3 once you've got Windows to see the drive, a bit faster still on reads over Thunderbolt, limited by the RAID configuration but still pretty fast on writes. However the real distinction with Thunderbolt is convenience (daisy chaining) and better reliability (at least as far as I found).
