1.0 out of 5 stars Had to send mine back. 10% failure rate is scandalous., 23 Sept. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I ordered one of these on the basis that it has several thousand positive reviews, but failed to take account of the fact that 10% of reviews are 1 star. It looks like 10% of these drives don't work. Mine was not recognised by any of six PCs I tried it on, Our office IT guy couldn't get his PC to recognise it . How can Samsung sell something with a 10% failure rate? No reaction at all from seller to my attempt at feedback.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very powerful narrative; author will be sadly missed, 16 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Interpreters (Kindle Edition)
I have only just begun to read this, but found it very gripping, sometimes scary sometimes funny. I wanted to find out more about the author. She seems to have been a remarkable person and I was very sad to discover that she died in November 2013 of cancer, at only 54.

Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sixth Woman, 22 Mar. 2014
A fascinating, well-written and well researched fictional story loosely based on the life of the real life spy Melissa Norwood ("The Spy who came in from the Coop").Jennie Rooney has taken the broad outline of Norwood's life and tries to imagine why a highly educated woman in the 1930s might have volunteered to become a Soviet agent with no brainwashing or blackmail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great collection but no track titles!!, 5 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Beautiful music.
There is a similar collection by Stamitz of just the Dvorak for £1 less so this is amazing value for about 15 CDs. BUT the digital labelling makes it impossible to work out the composers' names for each track. If Amazon can fix this a clear 5.

Purchased some months ago. It hardly gives any boost to the signal when it does work which is not all the time. If anyone can recommend a better one, do please post it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most expensive hat in world history, 22 July 2013
For the last 3 days this item has been on sale at £1,111,111,115.45.
Somebody's pricing algorithm has gone seriously wrong.
I gave it 5 stars for uniqueness.

Take Back the Center: Progressive Taxation for a New Progressive Agenda
Take Back the Center: Progressive Taxation for a New Progressive Agenda
by Peter S. Wenz
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £19.95

5.0 out of 5 stars A manifesto for addressing inequality, 1 Oct. 2012
The author is an old friend and gave me a copy of this book. Peter Wenz is an applied philosopher and his approach is to pull together a broad argument drawing on the work of authors such as Paul Krugman. The text reminds me a little of the work of Polly Toynbee, meticulously documenting the scale of social inequality that is emerging and making it clear that it is not acceptable to assume that rising prosperity among the very rich will trickle down to everyone. The arguments for high public spending to support needed infrastructure and education spending will be more familiar in the UK than the US but the scale of the problem faced by the middle classes in the US are not so well appreciated.

4.0 out of 5 stars No nonsense guide to positive thinking, 4 Jan. 2012

I am not a fan of self-help books but this one seems a good bet if you are looking for one.
The text is firmly based on real examples including how the author (who I know) coped with the theft of her laptop with half the manuscript of this book on it. It is also grounded in research and has very concrete recommendations which are linked to CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) approach. I do sometimes wonder if you can use tips like this if you aren't already disposed to think positively, but this book is definitely worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful to see this available again, 19 Dec. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this as an LP in 1977 in Madrid just after the death of Franco. I showed it to a waiter in a restaurant who said "My mother used to sing that to me".

It is a beautiful blend of poetry, history and above all songs. Originally produced by the French Chant du Monde series, the songs are not martial but tell the history of Spain up to the war, ending with the heart breaking Corza Blanca by Rafael Alberti.

My LP got so scratchy that it was almost beyond playing.
Francisco Curto has a beautiful voice. Curto was an actor and anyone with beginner's Spanish will be able to follow the words,

It is a brilliant idea to revive these old recordings.

The only flaw is that, kind as the folks at Amazon are, they got the titles of some of the songs wrong, and muddled the order of the tracks, which would not normally matter but it does in this case.

More of this kind of stuff please! Has anyone out there heard of Luis Cilia?

5.0 out of 5 stars witty gritty noir, 15 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Nine Bar Blues (Kindle Edition)
I know the author and read his manuscript. And told him he really should let Kindle readers have this story. It's a classic genre tale, a smart wisecracking but dysfunctional protagonist caught up in murder drugs and whatever else is going. But a slightly seedy small town solicitor rather than gumshoe. I've read the text several times to comment and I am still gripped by the sharp crackling narration.
Just try the sample and enjoy! Well worth the princely sum of £1.71.
