5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning, insprational and pretty book to own, 21 Feb 2012
This review is from: Birdsong (Hardcover)
As an artist crafter, Ive been influenced by the beauty of birds for some time and have been thinking about linking birds into my work.
I was looking for a book that would enable me to source colour and image from photographs of birds, but came across this little gem.

I am sooo pleased I bought this, its beautiful. Madeleine Floyd is an incredible artist and this book is just stunning.

Page after page of watercoloured illustrated birds, each with a description on the page next to the image about the bird. Each desciption of the bird, also has a lovely illustrated egg in which the bird comes from.

This book is ideal for any bird lovers, but also any artists/illustrators as this book is perfect for any bookshelf.

At this bargain price its a must!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely book full of cute ideas for christmas, 27 Nov 2011
This book is full of lovely little ideas for christmas time, but I also think that with a bit of imagination you can amend the ideas to make things for all year round.

All the photographs are beautiful, showing you what you could make if you follow the insytructions on each page.

The products in the book all have a similar colour theme of reds, and creams, very country styled but this might have something to do with the artists origin- Norway. The products in this book could be made in other fabrics and colours of your choice to modernise the products more and make them less festive.

I have enjoyed looking through this book, and have loved making the more simple gifts featured.

Some of the projects featured are:
Santas, Angels, hearts, christmas stockings, appliques, rocking reindeer, hangings, gift sacks, tea cosy, christmas trees, penguins, painted christmas motifs and cards to name but a few of the 25 unique gifts projects.

There is another title by the same textiles artist tone finnager called springtime gifts that I also think would be a worthwhile purchase. Will be buying that one as well.

If you like sewing, and want to make things for friends and family at christmas then you should certainly buy this book, at less than a fiver you shouldnt wait.

4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty book to own, some great ideas, 27 Nov 2011
This is a lovely book to own. It contains many pretty images to accompany step by step instructions on how to make the products featured in the photos.

The book is split into different areas of projects to make:
At home- Breakfast set, laundry bag, bunting, aprons, and books
Loved Ones- totes, sewing set, furry friends, & quilts
Get Festive- Festive hearts, stocking, gifts, and gingerbread

Materials and techniques
The stitches
The Charts

The items seem fairly simple to make but I do think the different projects will suit different levels, so not all the products will be suitable for everyone.

I think though with a bit of practise you will eventually be able to make all the items if at the beginning you are as starter level.

It would make a lovely book on your bookshelf, so grab it now!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful informative book of joy, 27 Nov 2011
I love to work in mixed media and use collage as a medium in my work, and to be honest it was the front cover of this book that atracted me at first.

I have seen the work of Kelly rae Roberts before so was interested in this book, as find her work very inspirational.

The book is cover to cover full of beautiful imagery and fantastic ideas and examples of Kelly's work.
Although alot of the work featured is her illustrated ladies and girls, the ideas and techniques can certainly be used in other forms of art by using a bit of imagination.
I love this book, and continually look through it for insspiration and just to gaze and the lovely work featured inside.

If you love Kelly's work, or have a fascination in collage and mixed media then I suggest you purchase this book.

I bought this book as a gift for a friend who has just started smoking and salting his own meats and I thought it would be a perfect book for him to get some ideas and recipes.

It was well received and he thought it was a great idea. I was dissapointed in the lack of coloured imagery but to be honest I dont think that bothered the reciperant.

A large book full of ideas to use to salt, smoke your own meats.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic, informative book that you must own, 27 Nov 2011
This review is from: Blogging for Bliss (Paperback)
I have thought about setting up a blog for a while now, and although I knew it would be a beneficial thing to do, I didnt really know how to get started so was looking for a book to help me and ' Blogging for Bliss' certainly did.

It is extremely informative and fun at the same time, found myself looking on line at the blogs that were featured throughout the book.

Chapter 1 explains why we should have a blog, choosing the name etc and you also get to see the blogs of many different people.

Chapter 2- Tools of the trade which discusses domains, banners and profiles and the best places to get help as well as see the blogs of more bloggers.

Chapter3- Learning the ropes which determines your level of skill, the set up of a blog, how to write good posts, acronyms, and webspeak

Chapter 4- Beauty and the blog which discusses imagery, taking good photos, adding borders, jazzing up the blog, what you can and cant use

Chapter 5- Traffic School which is about inviting people to visit your blog, ideas to promote your blog, tips to help search engines find your blog, increasing traffic to your blog

Chapter 6- Finding business in Bliss which is about using the blog to promote your merchandise and services, selling services for profit

Chapter 7- If emily (posted) which is about behind the scenes, continuing the creative circle

I really do reccomend this book to anyone who needs a push in the right direction and needs some help to start their creative journey through Blogging. Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interested in self expression and creative healing then this book is a must, 27 Nov 2011
Although I do not produce journals in any format I was intreguid more about the creative healing and self expression side to this book. Art journals have always been something I would like to get into, and hoped that this book might help me to do so.
The front cover excited me, as I like to work in Mixed media and collage.

The book is split into pages after pages of different examples of artists journals and their own journeys to how they got to where they are and why they produced their journals.

They are all very unique and different to each other, which gives the book such variation in the contents.
It contains creative tips and advise which is useful. But most interesting are the worksheets that enable you to follow the instructions and produce your own journal pages.
The images are extremely inspirational and so are the artists stories.

Whatever your reasons for creative healing I think this book can certainly help and guide you into doing it through journals or just your own individual artwork.
It has certainly made me think about my life in a different way, and a way to express myself in my work more.
